Default where do you like your feet on a vintage?

I am debating on whether to put planks under the machines or on the sides. can't decide which way looks better. what do you think?

on my wall of pachinko right now, top shelf is underneath feet, bottom shelf is side feet.

I suppose I could make them look nicer, too, if I would learn how to use my router.

for looks i like the side feet with corners beveled. but, then you are drilling holes into the side of the pachinko.

ages ago I suggested using the small wooden plaques from craft stores or walmart for feet. there are many different sizes and fancy designs available. they are already sanded and ready to stain or laquer.

if would prefer screwing 2 pieces of one by to the bottoms of the machines, like the ones on your top shelf.that way,the screw holes would not be as visible if you ever decided to sell one.

I always put my feet on the bottom. I use a piece of wood between them to hold the ball tray.

Depends on whether height or width is an issue. Personally, make a cabinet to fit the wall that'll hold them all, so you won't need feet on any of them

i like my feet on the side... my reasons are not looks but strength... a nail or screw will pull out allot easier then it will ever shear off.. now if u glue them that makes all the diff in the world.. but i would never glue them..

also puting them on the side is allot easier..

hey mopar, I agree with your structural analysis. stronger on the sides than bottom with the same 2 screws. as a short cut when I'm just starting to clean and fix, I even get by with one 2 x 4 scrap on one side of the machine.

I am beginning to think I like the side mounts better, as there isn't the gap on the bottom and I can use thinner scraps of wood.

it is true, though, as gbjax says, that you can put another board across the bottom feet to hold the ball tray easier...

on my wall of pachinko, it just happened that the 1/2 inch shorter without the bottom feet worked out better for the two shelf setup on the bottom shelf...

I am putting up shelves 3 and 4 now, so I will have room for 8 more on display...

Do you keep them all loaded with balls and ready to play? Just curious.

Ok, I have to chime in here since I will soon have my first machine. I like the bottom mount if only for aesthetics... Not sure how it is structurally, until mine arrives and I get to see the weight issues.

But do tell about the 2 x 4...should I do that with the C that is on the way?

    i think a 2x4 is a bit overkill

3/4 inch thick with 1 1/4 screws should be plenty

sigrah - the 2 x 4 is just temporary, it's too heavy looking for permanent.

the 1/2 or 3/4 inch thick is fine. 7-8 inches long is enough

gbjax- I don't have them all loaded right now. still thinking about what do do there. some of the machines on the wall haven't been cleaned up yet, either.

my plan was to have a couple hundred balls in each one to be able to play whatever machine, or machines, I feel like, easily.

should have the 3rd shelf up tomorrow. will post more pix soon... tomorrow's a pachi fixing day

From the pic above, I think the bottom feet look better, but you could probably make side ones look nicer though...

Here is a pic I made 4 years ago on how I was going to make side feet..I thought they looked nice

You might still be able to add a board to side mounted feet if they were long enough in the back couldn't you?? Just screw through the sides of the feet in to the ends of the board?? Just a thought..

Hey Chewy, Remember we are in California ,Earthquake central . Some sort of anchor to the wall with each machine will make sure that the machines don't crash .

hey LD, I will have to stop at the crafts store to see what they have. I like that idea... pre-routered

MrG, that's a nice look with both front and back corners angled

ttc, I put an "anti-tip" wire on the right side of each machine. it's piece of heavy wire with loop that goes to a small screw on the side of the machine. don't want to lose the pachi's when the "big one" comes.

I'll grab all the pix I have of different feet for comparison, so sigrah will have some ideas.

it's amazing what a little router work will do, to make a plain piece of wood look finished... guess i will have to learn to use that tool soon (got it for a wedding present 3 years ago and still haven't opened it ).

glad you liked my finished feet

hey mopar, you're right. I didn't even notice that deficiency...

    router safty 101

practice on a nice large piece of scrap wood...

    clamp it down really good...

hold on tight when u turn on your router.. some have a violent start up.. but it will run smooth

when your routing, the router will try and pull u allong the direction the blade is turing... travel in the other direction.. (if i rember right u need to route counterclockwise)..

take your time and try and do not stop with the blade touching the wood (it will leave a burn mark.. especialy on hard woods like oak).. u can always make a second pass if needed..

start with a simple round over bit set it shallow and take small bites.. u can always make another deeper pass but u cant put it back..

and be aware this thing will make a mess.. let the wood chips fly
