Default 007 Takasago Pachislo coin issue

I've come across a 007 Slot Machine, by Takasago (same one pictured in the database: https://www.pachislodb.com/database-5621.html ). I believe I'm having an issue with the coin mechanism and I'm not quite sure where to start troubleshooting. Currently, the machine powers on and lights up. When I put a coin in, it always falls right back to the payout tray. Here's what I've tried so far:
Taping the flap (not sure on terminology) closed to force the coin to the hopper, no result.
When I received it, the coin mechanism was unplugged from the board. The previous owner has no experience or records of it and only used it as a show piece.
Changing the key position on what the PDF manual ( https://www.pachislodb.com/manuals/Takasago.pdf ) says is the "Setting key", this turns off the blinking lights and the "Hit Count" displays "6".
Powering off and on again, no result.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated! I have worked on IGT machines in the past, as well as arcade games and general electrical troubleshooting so I've got tools available

The token acceptor can have many sensors.
That fact that it's not even going onto error when you force a token through is a bit strange. Is it in play mode and not setting? You noticed a difference in lights and screen action when you went through the odds setting?

is play mode vs setting mode set with the key on the power box? If yes, I've tried it in both settings. I don't believe I saw a change in behavior with the odds setting button but I'll double-check and post back if I get any results.

Most will have a visual difference in the 2 modes. a change in the frame lighting. as this is an older model. its probably harder to see.
shouldn't have to power off after setting the odds. Just turn the key back to normal postion.

It looks like it's showing a Cr error.. have you tried a full reset??

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpc8K4F6KPw

Full reset (sometimes referred to here as the hard reset) it includes changing or setting the odds as part of the procedure..

    "TURN YOUR MACHINE OFF FIRST"

    1. Locate internal key switch, and insert key.
Note: In order to change odds, machine must be in idle mode with no tokens/coins or credits being played and off.

    2. Turn "reset" key switch to on, to access programming mode.

    3. Turn on machine now.

    4. Depending on machine type, a number from 1 to 6 will be displayed on one of the LED meters on front door.

    5. Locate and push Odds setting button. Depress button and notice movement of number being displayed in LED meter.

    6. Once desired level is displayed (1 to 6), push down on play handle (Joy Stick) for 10 seconds.

    7. Turn "reset" key back to off.

    8. Machine should immediately initialize. If not, turn power switch to the OFF position, wait 15 seconds and turn power switch back to ON position.

I did a full reset, no change. When I hold down the joystick for 10 seconds after changing the credit (1 to 6), nothing happens. No sounds or clicks or anything. It continues to have "CR" shown and doesnt accept any tokens.

I found another post that mentioned unplugging and re-plugging the coin mechanism where it plugs into the board above it. When I did so, all the lights turned off and now the power supply makes a whine noise and has a burning plastic smell...

Token path every machine has a magnetic detector for Steel tokens or coins and should reject any tokens /coins that are Magnetic .
