Default What can I use to more nicotine stains from a machine?

Hello, I just bought my first pachinko machine on ebay on Friday. The seller told me the machine has nicotine stains on it. I was wondering what I can use to remove the nicotine from the machines white plastic parts. I don't smoke myself and I doubt the wife would like having a large ashtray sitting on the bar.

Topol - the smoker's tooth polish...

Actually, if its supposed to be white, I'd try the mystical "Retr0-Brite" mixtures that people have been using for old computers lately...

Hmmmm well I've used retr0brite many times and it works great but there's a couple of caveats. One is that it was designed specifically to remove (actually reverse) the yellowing unique to ABS plastic. This yellowing is caused by a chemical reaction with UV light and not because of exposure to tobacco smoke or any other substance. Retr0brite is not a general purpose stain remover/cleaner. So will it work for tobacco stains? It might but that's not what it was designed for. Another thing is that its a lengthy process and requires handling caustic chemicals. I'd first sand out the stains if at all possible and polish the plastic with Novus, fine grain sand paper, etc.

I just use a 50/50 water and Formula 409 mix on the plastic wiped on with a soft microfiber cloth. Almost all the nicotine is surface buildup and not plastic discoloration so it tends to come right off. I use the same mix for the playing field and use a Qtip damp but not soaked in the mixture. Cleans all the dirt and gunk right off but dies make me wish I had a cell cleaner...

It was many years ago, but I think i used 'Novus' on my Star Wars white lumina frame, don't know if that was nicotine staining though as the ashtray had never been used on it, still had the cover sticker, so it may have just been yellowing of the plastic?

I have a couple of pinballs and so already had various bottles of Novus to hand

but whatever you use, it may be best to test on an inconspicuous part first, just in case

Thank you bunches, I've gonna try a simple green solution first that my father told me about. I actually haven't recieved the machine. So the ole' Snowman is hoping that the machine isn't all that bad, but I will still post pics, so you all can see what may and may not work. I'm sure some parts are supposed to be white as it is a king star machine.
