    Default My first cabinet

After seeing some of the cabinets in this forum I decided I wanted a cabinet for my machine as well. I kept it pretty simple, and made some missteps along the way, but am happy with how it came out.

    Lessons learned:
    1. White board is cheap but it's hard to find pieces that even look straight and minor warping is simply there, so a few things had to be sanded down
    2. The box on top for the ball drop is not perfect, and the diagonally sanded down pieces can't connect in the center because the hole is there so I had to add a piece of triplex as a bottom for stability as a second bottom
    3. Shifting the box on top forwards covers the hole and prevents more balls from going down. It's an 'okay' solution, but not great
    4. The drawer is too tall and there's no space for sliding feet underneath it. It works for now, but it's not great. Still looks nice.
    5. The transformer is placed the wrong way around and the wires are too short for the door to fully open. Oops.
    6. Second time using my jigsaw for something, and first time using a router and random orbit sander. Second attempt at woodworking (my first attempt is unfinished and was a disappointment of a box). Practice does make things easier.

I swear it was perfect before I painted it:

I think it look great, infinitely better than anything I could have made due to my lack of woodworking skills.

    Bravo Brava !

You might even have some members here wanting you to do a Flat Pack of your cabinet ( not assembled with or without hardware for assembly) for their machines.

Thank you. Given that it's pretty much custom sized for the machine and I have to apply plenty of wood putty to hide the worst imperfections I don't think I'm ready for flat packed yet.

My next purchase is likely going to be a miter saw or table saw if I can figure out where to put it. And of course another pachinko machine.

I used a different corner clamp, but yes, it made my life easier. My imperfections come from cutting using a jigsaw (thus no two boards are cut exactly the same), and then sanding down to ensure boards have the correct lenght. Since sanding ends up rounding the boards slightly and isn't perfectly straight I end up with having to fill small gaps here and there in my corners. A table saw will help with that, as will using MDF over white board, but I had no way to rip MDF and while Lowes will do it for you, it's the Holiday season and I didn't want to wait in line at the saw station.

Another lesson learned that I forgot to mention: Use #6 screws, not #8 as even with pre-drilling the #8 will split boards very easily. I had to redo more than a few boards because of splitting.

When I first was making the cabinet using Ken's plans I was using Poplar because it was cheap. Now with wood prices gone crazy I switched to laminate or furniture grade laminate and its been my goto for my last 4 cabinets. The only issues I have seen since switching deal with paint, as the laminate seems to absorb quite abit of it before it coats. This results in a few more coats then normal but in the end it comes out fine.
