    Default Popeye Pachinko Machine

Hi everybody, first post here (as was recommended by the gentleman who sold me the machine) to ask questions here 👋🏽

I am in UK and have just purchased a Popeye Pachinko machine and attached is a 24v AC 2 flat pin plug. I believe these machines run at 100v so I have just ordered this:

    https://www.espares.co.uk/product/es...SABEgK6mfD_BwE

Would this be ok to use as the converter and voltage reducer? My only issue is, it’s this only drops it down to 110v but I think the machine will be 100v. Will it cause problems?

    TIA

The one in the link is way to underpowered for a pachi. If you want to go down that route. Check out the 300w version.

Your best bet is just buy a 230v to 24v transformer rated at approx 8A 200va Rather than running to transformers. Some where like Farnells website is good. Its worth checking out to see if you can get a dual winding 12v one. As it can be cheaper that way.

Would this be suitable? Would chop plug off and fix to output terminals on this then use uk 3 pin plug and 2 core into transformer

No way. thats rated at 3VA

now I'm at the PC I can have a better look. If you can see anything on the back of the machine with a VA rating that would be helpful. But as it stands, these should be ok.

    https://uk.farnell.com/vigortronix/v...24v/dp/2817694
    https://uk.farnell.com/multicomp/mct...5va/dp/9532790

Although for wiring. The second one is probably the safer option.

Both of them you need to either pair up or link together the 2 inputs and outputs to get the right output voltage and power.

That is very helpful thank you. Would I need to encase this into something for safety? I can’t see any VA rating on the back but will have another look.

I don't see one either. The next size down they sell is 160va, That might do the job, or might get a bit warm.

If you don't have little ones running about. Then you could leave it out. but better to stay on the side of safety, Afte all there is 240v running through it. Or enclose the machine in a cabinet. As long as you have ways to let waste balls out and refill the top tank. I notice from the pic, you have a standard dongle. A simple upgrade is fit a Daverob dongle. That will make the machine easier to play without constantly having to manually fill up the front tray.

What does the dongle do? Does it mean you don’t win balls but displays a score instead?

Make sure it doesn't get 100v (or 110v) these operate on 24v AC. The 24v plug might physically fit an American 110v outlet but absolutely don't try that.

This is a bit overkill and I don't imagine the output sockets are correct but this could be easily converted to work, the transformer is correct and it comes cased as a bonus : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265811860...cAAOSw7OBi6twq

Thats actually a good buy. Just would need to source a site plug. It would also power a second machine of similar age.

The dongle fools the machine to think its connected to the parlour ball loan system and enables the shooter.
THE DR dongle expands on this and makes use of the 2 buttons on the front of the machine. rather than logging wins. It keeps track of the number of balls loaned out.
if you want to keep track of jackpots and reel spins. you need a data/battle counter.

Thats only 50va which is just over 2A. I wouldn’t recommend it.

It might for a short time. But likely to overheat, or cause the machine to keep dropping out and resetting.

It works for now and only planning on using it in short bursts 30 mins or so every couple of days but will invest in something more suitable if I run into any problems. Many thanks for all of your help so far, I’m sure to have many more questions soon

This is a 150VA machine. There is a tag of black print on clear plastic under the large white sticker with the SS-F number on it.

Maybe a Google sheet of all the machines and their required VA could be good. I can start building one if we want to make a thread people can post them in and sticky it? Anyone up for contributing their machines to the list?

If something can be done in a thread. it would require a mod/admin to keep it up to date.

Actually, I could start a Google Sheet and give permission to a select few to update it.
