Default Vintage Sankyo bell when does this ring?

O.K., I know I've flooded the market but one more question...when does this bell ever ring? See picture.

When the top front tray gets too full, the jackpot balls 'overflow' down that path into the lower front tray, hitting the bell along the way.

Yep, Jeff is right. You'll also notice that the tone is different on the bells so you can tell when the top tray is full. I guess the tone difference is for the blind players.
