    Default Stop button flashing lights.

Hello, I have a “Popper King” pachislo from the late 90’s? It’s made by IGT and it has bass fishing theme. My issue is this. Above the stop buttons there are three lights that should flash while the reels are spinning and go solid when the button is pressed. Currently two lights stay lit all the time and one never lights at all. I have tested the bulbs and they are all good. I suspect there is a flasher relay somewhere? Anyone have an idea where or what those relays would look like? I should add that the machine works fine. The reels stop as they should when the button is pressed. Thanks.

Could also be a dodgy stop button. Machines do funny things when the buttons get stuck.

I’ve tested the buttons with a multimeter. All check good, no sticking. This machine is late 90’s I think. Any idea if those lights have flasher relays? Or would that be controlled by one of the microchips?

I would have thought Controlled by a microprossor. Relays would be to noisy and over engineereed. especiallly for a low current bulb. Guess. your will have to follow the wiring tracks.

    I could be wrong

I’ve traced it to the main board. On my machine the main board is encased in plastic and sealed with some sort of Japanese security tape. I guess I need to decide if it’s worth it to break the seal.

You own the machine now . Open the case carefully and have fun troubleshooting !

Also. Bear in mind. Some machines buttons are done through optocouplers rather than micro switches. And may give incorrect continuity checks.
Also check your cables for damage. Remove and reseat connectors.

I decided to pull the main board and found the problem. 3 possibly 4 burned resistors. From my stereo experience I know that resistors tend to fry when something else goes. So I traced the leads to to the microchip directly above them and I see possible heat damage to that as well...S**t, Now what? Do I
replace the resistors and hope that the chip is not bad?

Check the Toshiba part number and see if it is still being made or if their is a substitute with the same values

The resistors are pretty much fried up in The photo . How are you going to get the right resistance value for replacement ?

I’m not sure how to get the right value. The one on the left was still readable. The other 3 were impossible. I don’t suppose you have a clear picture of this board or better yet a schematic?

Put a shout out on the pachislo section to see if one of our members owns a Popper machine and that they can take a good photo of that board front and back and post it on this Thread. Why I say photos of both sides of the board is you might have a burnt or missing circuit run on either side .

I posted a request in the model talk section. Seems like a sticky thread or database of photos of main boards as users pull them for troubleshooting might be a good idea.

Just some closure. I replaced the Toshiba Chip and the burnt resistors and the machine works great. I’ve had it in the man cave and the kids love it.
