How about us Polacks
Paczki Day is celebrated in Poland on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday, and in Polish American communities it is celebrated on "Fat Tuesday" - the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Polish paczki (filled doughnuts or Bismarks) were traditionally eaten on this day in Poland, as well as chrustiki or faworki (angel wings or bowties). When Poles immigrated to America, the custom continued, but there were so many other European ethnic groups who celebrate "Doughnut Day" on Tuesday, instead of Thursday, that the day changed over time. Enjoy your doughnuts!

St. Patty's day in Chicago is being celebrated earlier in the week due to thte fact it falls on all saints day. The occurance won't happen for another 150 years or so.

My neighborhood where I grew up in Chicago was mostly Polish and German.
the local bakery had their display windows filled with Paczkis for the holiday with all differnet kinds of fillings
my mother made hers from scratch and filled them with jelly with sugar and cininonim sprinkled on them, they were really delicious when still warm from being freshly made
she also made the bowties with powdered sugar sprinkled on them and they would melt in your mouth
