Default Custom Route 66 Theme, Full Cycle Project

I picked up a couple of "no name", ordinary machines. So, I was thinking of making it a Route 66 machine, with a custom playfield graphic, led lighting and making it a full cycle machine, with a Gaku counter. So, you play for a score vs. winning balls. (Kind of like a pinball machine).

Here's a picture of what I'm starting with.

This is what I'm going to use for the Playfield. It is printed on a heavyweight gloss poster paper with a 3 mil lamination. (18" x 24")

Machine is taken apart and parts cleaned. I redone the center attraction, painting it red, white and blue. Using an old Route 66 keychain, I had, epoxy to it. I also make a new sticker, ("Get Your Kick's"), and replaced the old green and white striped one, where the ball goes down the center hole.

Attached the playfield graphic. I used 3M Super77 spray adhesive, spraying both the wood and back of the playfield graphic. It was pretty much a "one shot deal". Once the two surfaces touch, there's no taking it apart.

Surprising enough, it only took 1 beer to get it lined up.

That 3m Super77 is really great stuff . I used it to make Mylar shields for the last musical that I was in on 1990 "Man of La Mancha " I did some props and played Head mule liteer and the Captain of the inquisition.

    Looks great! Thanks for sharing!

What did you use for software? I've got a custom playfield designed for myself in GIMP, but could use some tips on getting the components fine tuned before flattening the print file.

The playfield is not something that I made. I purchased the poster from Amazon.

Playfield is all back together. I already had finished another frame, so I decided to put the playfield into it.

Next will be to make and install some new rails/channels, so the balls cycle back to the shooter tray. Install the sensors/wiring for the counter and wiring for lighting.

I probably could use some of the existing rear plastic, but really didn't want to cut it up. So, I just make them.

Ok, this is very cool man! I love route 66

I collect a lot of different things, one of which are interstate signs and old route signs.

This is the holy grail! I never thought I'd find one! 20210109_144549.jpg

This is what I came up with for the machine to cycle balls back into the shooter tray.

The LOST balls are pretty much a straight run into the shooter tray.
The WINNING balls may travel several paths, but they all end up coming to a leaf switch. When the ball contacts the leaf switch it activates the lights and a door bell chime. The ball then passes by a sensor, that counts it, (as 15 balls won) and then returns to the shooter tray.

Got the finishing touches on the cabinet and a faceplate made for the counter.

What was once a pretty ordinary machine, is now an "eye catcher". (At least I think so, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.)

Here's an idea, hook up an inexpensive mp3 player and speaker with a sample of your favorite version of the song to a micro switch on a tulip win. You could probably do it for $20 on ebay.
