Something I read on the Big Bear site which seems CRITICALLY important is :

"Normal Games" refers to the games you have no chance to win a Regular or a Big Bonus. In Normal Games, pachislo machines control reels' movement so that you never hit winning combinations. In other words, no matter how accurately you push Reel Stop Buttons, you will never win a Regular or a Big Bonus as long as you play Normal Games. Pachislo machines make the reels "slip" on purpose. The symbol you shoot may slip four steps at most.

OK, heard that - BUT :

Pachislo machines give "Winnings Signs," telling that you have entered "Stand-by Games." In Stand-by Games, pachislo machines do not control the reels.

    So....

"In Stand-by Games, pachislo machines do not control the reels. "

That a WHOLE new game then ! Although guess I am the only one who didn't know this aren't I *lol*

when your in the bonus round on a lot of machines like the outlaw and treasure ship you can eye shoot the first symbol

and if you hit it right the other two reels line up for a payout.

the deca chile on outlaw and the treausre ship on the first reel can be hit almost every time in bonus.

Okay, sorry for starting up an old thread, but this got me to thinking again about an unanswered question I have.

How much are these tokens worth?

I assume you go into a parlor/casino and buy some tokens then play the machines, but how much are the tokens to buy and what are they worth once you've one them?

    Anyone know?

    Thanks

Not sure this is the right thread for this but they are bought/loaned at 50 tokens for 1000 yen (about $9.52US). Not sure about redemption rate.

Yeah, sorry about the thread, my point for putting here was, if they are equate to 1000 tokens = one soft toy, then why pay loads of money for the glasses. What I'm trying to understand is - are these machines serious gambling machines or just a bit of fun at the seaside?

Once you get your soft toy, you take it outside and around the corner, there is a window there and you exchange your soft toy for hard cash. It's fairly serious gambling in Japan.

Okay, thanks Tulsa. I hope I haven't offended with the soft toy thing, but here in the UK they have machines that give out tokens and you exchange the tokens for prizes/gifts, I'm sure you can see the similarity.

That aside, is the whole tokens exchange because of Japanese gambling laws?

Do you buy tokens for say $1 = 10 tokens and exchange back after gambling for 10 tokens = $1 or is there some lose? I'll assume from your reply that no soft toys are involved in the transactions and none are harmed in the process

Do they not have casinos with 'American' style slot machines that take cash?

I can't say I'm sure what the exchange rate is in the parlors. They certainly have bill collectors on their machines but how many tokens per yen you get, I have no idea.

Aren't these last three responses the same thing I said several posts ago?

    Thanks folks.

Compirate - I think you did yes, but the more the merrier, its nice to have it confirmed.

Tulsa - I thought you were being sarcastic with the 'take the toy round the corner to exchange it' which is why I apologies if I offended, now I've found this -

Note: Pachislo is a big business in Japan; there are millions of machines in use. People exchange money for tokens, usually around 1000 Yen = ~ $10 for 50 tokens. (50 tokens doesn't last long!) If you happen to win, you trade in the tokens for prizes at the front counter. More tokens = bigger prize. However, there is usually a little booth within close proximity of the Pachislo parlor. They know the value of each 'prize', and will trade it in for cash (after applying their 'discount', of course). The prize can then be sold back to the pachislo parlor. This*is* illegal, but it is a common incident.

So thank you all for your replies.

They do however raise another question, I think if you shop around on the net you can get the tokens for cheaper than 50 for 1000 yen, so you could porbably make some cash buying them and then selling them back to the parlors, if we all lived in Japan of course

Yes but you'd look funny going into the parlor with your pockets bulging with tokens and you would have to buy the same type of tokens that parlor uses.

For cash redemption, usually there is a specific prize. From a movie posted on this board somewhere it was a small box with a special token in it. I have also heard it was pencils. I believe the exchange rate for tokens is 1 to 1 (pay 20 yen get 20 yen) but for pachinko balls is 2 to 1 (you pay 2 yen, they give 1).

I appoligize if I stepped on any toes with my last comment but I just thought they sounded familiar!
