Default Custom Model A, Jetsons Theme

I picked up a Model A, close to home and was cheap.

Wasn't really anything special about it, so I decided to make it into a custom Jetsons theme machine.

I did change all of the lighting to LED. On payouts the center feature, the light in the upper left, the jackpot window and the 2 green lights beside the jackpot window all lite up.

I put 2 blinking red leds in the center feature, that blink all the time.

When the hopper is empty, the window on the shooter tray lights red.

Here are some before and after pictures and a short video. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YE0taT6bnHw

That looks fantastic. How did you get the chromed frame to look so nice? What did you use? Paint?

The chrome frame and shooter door were rusted pretty bad. The only option, I could see was to paint it.
I sanded the frame with 60 grit sandpaper, 1 coat of primer and 3 coats of chrome paint. After about 5 days, giving time for the paint to cure well, I put some spray furniture polish on a cotton cloth and wiped the frame down. It turned out fairly well.

The shooter door also was sanded down with 60 grit sandpaper and I use a self adhesive vinyl wrap, (an updated name for contact paper, I think.). It also worked out fairly well.

I did build a cabinet for the machine today. Just need to get it on the wall.

I'd say "fairly well" is an understatement, that looks great! I'm going to probably have to try that on one I'm restoring now, it's not heavily rusted, but has a very rough surface that 4/0 steel wool and chrome polish aren't going to fix.

I just didn't feel that the back of the machine was complete, without some type of container for the ball dump.

I have gotten several of those blue containers from buying machines and one was a smaller version. It fit into the metal housing perfect, but it wouldn't set correctly because it hit the shooter arm and the bottom rubber bumper. So, I cut a notch to clear the shooter arm and bumper and it fit and set perfect. To cover the cut out/notch, I took a small plastic screw container and cut it fit over the notch. Painted it blue and glued it in.

It now looks complete, rather than having an empty metal tray/housing.

That is amazing! I'd like more details on the cabinet, especially that ball opening on top!

I did get the cabinet mounted to the wall. I like playing the machine better when the machine doesn't move around and everything is secure and you open the door fully with no worries.

The sound of the balls is "muffled" some with the back closed off, against the wall.

This is a cabinet design that works well for me. I used different ideas from other Members cabinet designs and this is what I came up with.

The ball opening at the top is a 1 1/2 inch wide by 7 inch long, sloped trough that is centered over the hopper. The top of the cabinet is designed for just filling the hopper and not as a ball reservoir, as in some designs. So, this size opening is more than adequate.

On the inside I add an extension to the hopper, (made from aluminum coil stock), no higher than the cabinet frame, so the door still opens and a wooden extension down from the top the goes around the hopper extension. This way I increase the capacity my hopper and I can dump the balls in, without having balls bounce out and down into the cabinet.

    cab16.jpg cab6.jpg

    cab3.jpg cab15.jpg

On the cabinet design for a Model B machine it is the same as far as filling the hopper, but at the bottom I add a sliding/pull out drawer that has collected the lost and winning balls.

Also build a trough inside to direct the balls to the drawer.

Now all you have to add is a sound bite of the Jetsons door bell or or have a button up front that when pushed it plays the Jetsons theme song .
