Hyrdaulic regulator...as opposed to a clock. 2050-12-31 23.59.59-59.jpg 2050-12-31 23.59.59-60.jpg The top brass nut clearly has been tampered with. It is reported to be exceedingly hard to remove. There is one on the end of the cylinder (that is not visable in pic #1) as well. Copper washer between cast iron and brass net on each end. Supposedly...originally filled with "Sperm Whale Oil", which is typically...dark, and stinky. Brake fluid seems to be an acceptical subsitute for rebuilds. Mine seems to work acceptibly, so no need to tamper with the "hydraulic clock". 2050-12-31 23.59.59-58.jpg The screw, below the stamped number, is an adjusting screw. Reportedly, it can adjust pressure from NO FLOW...to FULL SLAM. I have seen no need to adjust this.
I do think that it could kick the reels a bit stronger. this could be as simple as removing the reel bundle, and cleaning, polishing and lubing the moving parts.
