I think I have decided I am going to wait for one with the hand crank ball lifter. I know I may take awhile but one will turn up eventually. Unless someone here has one they are willing to let go of.

Well I ended up pulling a muscle in my back over the weekend. (Getting old is no fun) My wife drove us home so I could stretch out in the car for the drive. Didn't end up stopping to look at any of the pachis. I think I am going to hold out until one really catches my eye. The one in North Carolina looks interesting. I have to drive down to NC in a couple of weeks for a meeting. I may see if that one is still available when I am headed that way.

That "frame" looks custom made, very well done. Clean, aesthetically pleasing, almost artwork in itself. If you were to put a modern in there, I do not think the frame would be as nice. Its the offset of the metal vs the tan wood that makes the combination "work". It reflects the rectilinear design of Japanese architecture. I'm not an art guy, but I'm impressed.

    Seriously.

So what is a hand-crank ball lifter? Is that what I call a semi-automatic shooter? The action of lowering the striker/hammer (lever at front) loads the ball into the breech (couldn't think of a better word)? Or is there some device that raises balls from the drain to the hopper?

    Inquiring minds want to know.
    Thanks

Hand-crank ball lifter is just what it sounds like..Some vintages have an actual crank on the lower front that takes the played balls in the back back up to the rear reward hopper..Pretty Rad!!

I was going to post a picture of an example. I have yet to be able to post pictures with my iPad though.

So the blonde wood (veneer? formica?) is original and/or traditional? That's what I've got and it's what I've seen in most pictures.

I loathe the frame mine is in, though. It's the typical rectangular frame with two crosswise planks for feet. It's ugly, it's not stable... must... remake!

i picked this machine up monday. i had been in contact for almost a week with them about it but could never get our schedules to match up. i picked it up for $24.

if i decide to keep it what is the opinion on cleaning up the metal back? would you buff it out or not. it is basic pot metal. it also is missing the red lens on the front. any chance of finding one? also has a broken plastic piece on the back. it works fine. it did have a couple different size steel balls with it. also had one ball that had pictures of dice on them which i thought was pretty cool!

Sounds like you got a really good deal on the machine. It was one of the ones that I was thinking of stopping and checking out on my trip back from NJ but ended up pulling something in my back and just wanted to get home.

Post some pictures of the problem areas. I am sure several people will be along to offer suggestions.
