Looks like you got a really cool Sega machine! I like the mechanical skill stop mechanism! The brakes stop the reels nicely when it times out. The skill stop buttons look like they press on linkages that push the brakes in prematurely. Therefore, I expect they should stop the reels just as quickly. I expect that if you watch what they do...they probably aren't pushing the brakes fully into the star wheels that they stop the reels with. Likely gummed up with old oil. I think a good cleaning of the skill stop linkage will improve that! Since it times out so quickly...try pulling the handle with your right arm, and push the stop buttons with your left hand. Check the fan on the clock as well. The Mills book states that casinos would bend the fan blades to decrease wind resistance, which makes the clock run faster. The faster the clock goes, the faster the reels stop...therefore, the faster they put another token in. Makes more money for the house. NOT recomended for home use...it puts more stress and wear on the mechanism. The fan blade should be straight across the shaft it spins on. This creates maximum wind drag on the fan, which causes it to unwind slower. If this is the case, removing the fan, and hammering it flat, replace it...should run slower, making more sense for a skill stop machine! I would love to see some pics of the mechanism out of the case on all sides, especially the stop button linkage, and how it interacts with the brakes! It should look just like a Mills machine...they were made on barely used dies and molds from Mills! I should recognize all the parts except for the skill stop parts. Between Brains Beer and Mills...I've come to understand most of what goes on inside these boxes. If you run into any problems, I might be able to help you out.

there are a second set of sq stop blocks that are actavated by the skill stop buttons.. (im guessing the springs need to be tighter or shorter to work better.. cleaning it will be first on my list)

as for the clock i expecated the blades to be bent as well.. but there nearly flat.. so flat in fact i have not bothered to try and straighten them further.. i wonder if longer blades are made???

ill pull the mech and take pics from all 4 sides.. (allready took them once but deleated them by accedent)

You could test by taping some stiff cardboard to the fan.

back or mech Olympia star (4).jpg

the wire is for a bell that is activated when a jackpot is hit.. (apears to be aftermarket)
    right side Olympia star (6).jpg
    front of mechOlympia star (7).jpg
    left side Olympia star (3).jpg

as stated.. It is exactly the same as a Mills mechanisim.. (well except the extra stops)

WOW! That was quick, and what a clean looking machine that is! Its action is pretty fast, and crisp. The reel gears on the "right side" don't have much wear on them. Those vertical arms in that pic, spring into those gears, some hitting holes...determine the payout. The star gears on the "left side" are what the brakes stop the reels with. I need to look at them some more to try to see how they work with the stop buttons!

a simple push of the button releases the loaded spring and the second set of blocks are released.. like everything else all mechanical..

I can make a Vid if needed..

Pushing the stop button pushes the horizontal bar and pivots the arm with the top block ( I think of the block as a brake shoe...since the arm is called the brake!) into the star wheel to stop it. At least that is what it looks like to me! There looks like a spring might be there for stop tension. Maybe a place of business loosened the spring tension because he thought it gave customers the advantage!
