Default Hopper pays out endlessly - 1997 MIZUHO 'Light A Lamp' Pachislo

Pachislo won't stop spitting coins out even after Reset. Once it runs out of coins and then times out it stops spinning and a chiming noise is sounded.

I've done the Key Switch "ON" and pressed Reset button to set to desired number then held Spin Reels lever (corresponding LED on computer comes on) down for over 5 seconds. Machine does not appear to initialize though it remembers the new number I've set. What does happen is as soon as I turn the Key Switch "OFF" the hopper immediately starts spitting out coins (these do flash the correct LED on the computer) until it runs out of them.

I've fed several hundred coins through the hopper with no change in the results.

I have checked the backup battery and it is fine. I've disconnected the logi board from the battery for a period of time in an effort to force a hard reset on the logic - no change.

    Gah!

    Suggestions?

I've hunted for service manuals but all I've found is the PachisloOperation.pdf (not bad) which doesn't suggest anything for continuous hopper payout.

Could it be the token payout button is stuck on.

As far as I can tell there is neither a Hopper Empty nor a Token Payout switch. The machine does come up with the "HE" error code once the hopper has timed out.

I have disconnected all the front panel switches with no change to the results - all switches either turn a corresponding LED on or off (two switches). These two switches are above the Start Reels lever both are normally closed (LED on) - if unplugged so the LEDs are off there is no difference in the result.

If there is no hopper dump switch that could be faulty, more than likely you have a Motherboard problem.

Indeed - are there any schematics for these machines? Has anyone had luck asking the manufacturers for info?
