    Default I broke something. Argh...

While disassembling my new model A, I accidentally broke the piece that the rod attaches to that triggers more balls to fall down from the hopper. See pics below...

As you can see, the tip of it snapped off as I was trying to remove the retaining ring. Any suggestions to fix it?

I thought about cutting the stump flush with the rest of the arm, then drilling a hole through at the point the stem was at, and insert an 'L' shaped rod that the rod from below can slip over.

Keep the post, drill a pilot hole (dead center) and get a small self tapping screw (8-32?) and washer.

That won't split the entire arm?

Not if you drill a pilot hole close to the size of the screw.

If too small of a hole is drilled, then yes, you run the risk of cracking it

if your supper worried about breaking it with a screw... drill all the way threw it and get a supper small bolt and nut...

but a small drillbit and screw will probably be the easy way

OK, so I ended up having to cut the stub off after all. I tried drilling through it, but the bit kept wandering. After cutting off the stub I was able to drill through in the right location and then inserted a screw with a washer, problem solved!

I'm sure someone once gave me the tip if you're drilling to put a piece of tape over it. It was meant to have a number of mythical benefits. I guess in this case by putting one or two layers of tape and marking the point, you could have anchored the drillbit a little easier. No guarantee though. I can't hold a drill all that steady either.
