well after TTC went to Bestbuy and checked out the emachine, he found out there is no button to open the drive, I have to open it by going into my computer, click on dvd drive and click on open.

it closes when you press the tray lightly. that problem is solved

I guess they were more worried about making the computer look fancy, then functional

on my old computer with 80gb drive i downloaded the softwear for the 6 floppies from microsoft site to get the computer ready to accept xp.

after loading them it wants xp home edition cd, which i don't have right now.
i'm getting the cd to try it, i have my serial number to use with it.

the system won't take my restore cds or another xp cd i had burned.

if all else fails i will put the orginal 40gb drive with xp back in it and put it away with my other obsolete computers

Keep your windows 40 gig and put the 80 gig as a slave on the primary channel. What is it your trying to do, up the storage?

well after being sick with a cold for 10 days, i'm finally feeling better

I put the 40gb with windows xp back in and set the 80gb as a slave drive.

all is working ok, but, I did buy a new computer a few weeks ago, so the one i've been working on with this problem will go out to pasture

    thanks all for your help
