Default marilyn monroe machine in berkeley

    hey guys.

picked up this monroe machine yesterday.

it looks like a nishijin C that was modified.

the seesaw that lets jackpot balls has a solenoid activated second gate that regulates whether 7 or 15 balls fall out.

the regulator seesaw is operated with a motor that turns two gears, but it still links up to the jackpot seesaw to release balls.

the marilyn centerpiece is quite fun (a little X rated). I'll post a quick vid of the center piece action. her black dress comes off in two halves from the sides, then her pink bikini drops if you get a ball in the middle hole of her dance stage.

the sound is very loud and sometimes annoying. will be adding a resistor to the speaker tomorrow. what ohm and wattage do I need?

pretty fun machine, and a transition, I guess, before the LCD screens came into play.

also, there was this L shaped piece of plastic, screwed onto the back that I am not sure where it is supposed to go. I could not find any empty pivot points, and the machine works without it. any ideas where it goes?

    Hey mudfud,

That's the same machine I was trying to fix back in April. The see saw motor was shot and wouldn't turn the gears, and I couldn't find another.

Here is a link to the thread: http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/mode...ding-part.html

It looks like a fun machine with a great "payoff" if you get the right combination of jackpots!!

hey mopar. that is exactly where that piece was on mine... it doesn't do anything, so I thought maybe someone just stuck the spare part there, for safe keeping.

good eye there, yes that was a major ball jam. the previous owner had removed so many nails above the pockets that there were just too many jackpots for the seesaw to keep up with. I replaced the nails and it works fine now. (was a pain in the neck to have to keep manually emptying that jackpot regulator. have to take the motor and gear mechanism off, then get it realigned properly on reassembly. note: line up the white painted spots)

jeff - I thought this was the machine you worked on. did you check the circuit board to make sure something wasn't burned out there? wonder if you can convert back to the nishijin C mechanism, then not need the extra stepper motor.

looks to me that if you extend the brass arm back out to the vertical chute where the ball tips it down and then triggers the jackpot seesaw, you could get it to work.

you might not have the 15 vs. 7 balls, though that solenoid might still work?

candyflip - if we use the definition of modern being 80's, then you are right. I had gotten used to the YJA definition, where these machines are called "retro" and filed separately than the LCD moderns. perhaps 80's machine is the term I should use.

off to find a suitable resistor to turn her volume down a little.

Wow Chewy, Jeff, How did that machine end up in California? Thats amazing!

Glad to see its still "among the living" and not thrown in the dumpster.

the resistors that worked were 10 ohm for me, and 300 ohm for the wife. then, there's OFF completely.

had this odd switch in my surplus stuff. in makes contact with every 2 adjacent pins, so I rigged it to go soft/loud/off.

Interesting innards. I'm familiar enough with the C mechanism to the point that I'm dangerous, but those mods are really something else.

A lot of the intricacy must involve that center section alone.

Perhaps these were the last of the C chassies before the more modern ones were issued?

yeah batterymaker, there is a lot of engineering in this machine.

when I step back and see all the LEDs going, the little gates for clothing and balls, think about the sensors and the dual payouts, it's very complicated. it's also amazing that these machines are still working after 20 plus years.

I picked this one up for the novelty, but it should be a crowd pleaser when we have company.

there's a fellow in pasadena selling one right now, and a couple on ebay. it's funny how the machines seem to show up in groups of the same, or is it that I just notice them now?

I think others see someone selling their machine, and think its about time to get their's out there and see what its worth... copycat is often seen on eBay in this regard (and why not - go for it I say).

There is always another machine around the corner...
