when I was a young girl, I had a hamster, called Hammy of course...and we put it's cage up on top of an old chest freezer, ideal height to observe it

Well one night it escaped!! it must have been chewing a particular corner of it's cage bars for weeks, it broke it off and escaped, it must have jumped or fallen down from the freezer and was nowhere to be found

I panicked, I cried, distraught at never seeing Hammy again, then one night in the kitchen i heard a little sound...it was coming from the wall that half divided the dining area from the kitchen, a hollow wall... Hammy was camping!!

So the plan to retrieve the wayward hamster was put into action. We opened the kitchen cupboards beneath the sink, the cupboards were open at the back, just a small opening, but the hamster was using it as a way to get food and take it back to it's makeshift camp in the false wall

So for a couple of nights we waited til dark, opened the cupboard doors and placed some food on the kitchen floor

I'm sure it waited til we got bored or turned our backs for a minute, then I presume it would stuff it's pouches full of food and dash back to the safety of the wall

This went on for quite a few nights...Til one night, the hamster sneaked out of the cupboard and bam!! a bucket was swiftly placed over it!!

Hammy was safe and after a quick checking over, he seemed okay after his adventure, he was put into a safer cage, afterwards he led a very boring normal hamster life for a couple of years, until the inevitable happened...

so please be sure to check your hamster cages, they are rodents, they love to gnaw anything and everything, or you could find yourself staking out your kitchen at night...

on one escape the hampster was making noise under the sink cabinet, i couldn't lift it up or get to the hampster.

so i broke a hole on the inside of the sink cabinet and had my son get his small plastic ladder from his toy firetruck. i put the ladder 1/2 way in the hole to the floor.

in less then a 1/2 hour here comes the hampster walking up the ladder

our neighbor had one missing for a week and when she went to do laundry found it in her laundry basket full of dirty clothes

Oh no. That mac cage is way too small to any hamster. Even for the smallest Roborovski desert hamsters.

So, you are saying that it isn't even good for a hamster cage either...

I remember back in the day, Taking an old Tandy TRS-80 and turning into a fishtank.
It was cool because unlike the IMAC, the keyboard was part of the unit.

I had a teddy bear hamster when I was in High School, that attacked and killed every other hamster I placed in the cage.

It is a good thing that hamsters were only about 85 cents each.

I let him go in the back yard, figuring that some damn thing would eat him, but he lived like 6 more years living and traveling via the rain gutters.

One night I was in the driveway drinking beers with my pals, and I looked up to see the little rat ... looking at me over the edge of the gutter. I did not sleep too well that night. I never heard him scurrying around again. I think I'll talk this over with my therapist next Tuesday (cringes)
