    Default Billy at Space camp

4 kids at Billy's school won all expense paid trip to space camp. 2 kids were chosen as alternates. The alternates could attend at there own expense or if one of the 4 couldn't make it then an alternate could take there place. Billy was an alternate and attended with help of everyone in his family chipping in to send him with the rest of the kids. I was a little annoyed by this video that they made him say thank you over and over again when his trip wasn't paid for. But anyway...Here is the video. He had a great time and it was worth every penny!!

just to dwell on Chris's beef about the thank you's. a bit.. (sorry if i take the thread to another direction)

it irks me that people do good for recognition..

if your gonna do something good do it for the sake of doing it and not for what you can get out of it..

the company i work for does a yearly trip for kids, taking them out for a one day cruise on one of our cruise ships. we offer this to S.O.S its a special organization for under privileged children and children which have been the victims of less then caring home environments.

when we first started doing this the organization asked us only that we didnt go overboard with the advertising of what a GREAT THING WE WERE DOING! they were very surprised when we told them we were doing it and didnt want any recognition for it.

they advised us that most companies ask them first, So what kind of PR could we get out of this???

when I was a deacon at our church we did the collecting and counting of donations.

some people asked for a tax reciept at the end of the year for what they donated.

one member would put 3 one hundred dollars bills folded up every sunday. we never did figuire out who it was, but, they never asked for a tax slip.

many people who made large donations didn't want their names mentioned.

I suppose that its better giving it to charity than letting the tax man have it at least some real good was done with the money

I always figured if I had money to donate (if it was in a big way) that I'd prefer to give a thing, rather than cash. Cash has a way of evaporating, a roof or a special van doesn't.

Who's that secret santa guy who goes around giving out the money to the needy, he's a cool guy, just hard to tell who's really needy sometimes.

You don't know the number of times I've been approached at the truck stops with "we're on our way to (insert relative type here)'s, and our car/truck/van ran out of gas/broke down, got any money?

I had one guy approach me on dark morning while I waited for a place to open for delivery and ask if I had a couple bucks so he could get something to eat. For some reason, I really believed him. All I had was a 5, so I gave him that and he said 'this is too much'! I'd have given him a 20 at that point if I'd had it!
