The way I have my set up is to get a very low cost mixer (Radioshack) less than $100, they have a couple of models.NOTE if you are going to connect a turntable you will need a preamp. the Radio shack mixers have this preamp built in and you can do fading and mixing. These are a DJ type mixer. Also has mic inputs
Will need some RCA connector cables.

This setup works very well. I use an older program called COOL EDIT. I LIKE THIS PROGRAM AS IT DOES A LOT , REMOVE POPS AND CLICKS sets audio level and so much more.
If you going to copy records the sound editing program needs some kind of pop and click editingand sound leveling (audio normalizing). I even have this setup a one of my radio stations I work for and at one of the DJ'S at his home for doing SPOTS on his laptop computer.
Note if you use a turntable USE THE GROUND WIRE!!! or you will get hum. Try it on the mixer and the computer use which ever gives you the least hum and noise.

This would work but not cheap at all.
TEAC Turntable and CD Recorder Radio (TEAC-GF-350)

I know for fact they did make a cd player recorder a few years ago.

Found one also not that cheap.

I've done this myself and it took a long time to get it set up right.

I got a phono preamp from ebay but had a hard time getting a ground that a electronic device in the house wasn't already using. It created a hum that could not totally be resolved until I found a good ground. I also got a new catridge for the turntable (a old technics sl-1 direct drive). Recently I've seen some pre grounded and preamped USB turntables but they are still over $100.

I used the microsoft XP media plus pack that I paid $19 for at Target. It has a pop/hiss reducer and it will break the songs into tracks. It writes into a great quality and compact WMA file.

Going the other way I hot wired a cassette to 8-track converter with a headphone jack so that I can play mp3s on my army green GE am/fm 8-track or my red panasonic dynomite 8-track player. I also have a 1969 "lugable stereo" sears/sanyo am/fm 8-track with a 15watt amp and detachable second speaker that weighs about 20 pounds without the 8d batteries. But boy can that thing pull in the radio stations with a nice AFC lock in stereo.
