Default It May Sound Premature, But It's Not...

    Hello again-

I recently purchased a Star Wars and a Ferrari pachinko from TA. I love the Star Wars and have yet to open the Ferrari (it's still in box downstairs .) I just haven't had the time with work to get my 'stuff' together. This weekend that will all change and I intend to post some pics and reviews of my new machines.

I've played pachinko in my childhood and have played numerious times in Japan, as I often have to travel there for work and recently spent three long, hard months there. As such, I've grown to love the games even more and want to convert my gameroom into a 'parlor' that has at least three games mounted against one of the walls.

Obviously, I have now have SW and Ferrari, but definately want to purchase one more in the very near future (near future mainly because I want a handyman to come out and wall mount them all at the same time).

So... I actually have two questions:

    1) I'm very interested in Julie, Cherry Blossom Festival (Sukura) or Jaws. Does anyone have a recommendation of one that is a bit different than those I already have, one that's more fun/exciting than the other, or even one that's a better choice than those I've listed?

    2) Who makes the best, most secure wall-mounting systems?

You people have made this the friendliest, most welcoming message board that I've ever participated on. I'm sure I've been a pest with some of my 'newbie' questions, but please realize that I do appreciate all of your help tremendiously.

    Eric

Just a couple of quick comments because it is getting pretty late...

I have Julie, and it is really fun. I originally got a Lumina based machine for Star Wars, and then Indiana Jones, but I find that Julie is in there more than the others. It is just very unique.

As for wall mounting, I was amazed at how snug and solid my cabinet got when I put the first (of 6... Call it overkill) 3" bolt through the stud on the wall for. I could have sworn that it would hold with just 2 bolts. Four bolts is probably the right number, but I went six just to be sure. Many tried and true designs use a "cleat" that gets mounted to the wall, and then the machine slides down on to the cleat for a solid, but removable cabinet.

You can check out my build thread if you want to.

    Wow. Impressive.

Thanks much! I'm not much of a handyman but I will definately take a serious look at what you've done. It looks awesome. Stability is absolutely what I'm looking for with a wall mount.

    Thanks again. Terrific information.

I would say that Julie Pinball is indeed a different and engaging Pachinko,
and would be a great choice in anyones collection.

A search of the Museum Section should give you more info and Videos on
this Pachinko and others that you may be interested in.

Also there are a number of ideas for building your own cabinets in this section

I mounted some of my games right into the wall. (pictures in the link below) My pachi workshop is on the opposite side so it was easy for me to fit ball lifters and Dave's dongles to each machine for the full parlor experience.

"IN-wall" mounting is cool! I had seen that years ago (about 13 years ago) at a college friend's parent's house. My game room at home is always in a state of flux, so I couldn't commit to that, but that is an option. Then you can build an in-wall frame that doesn't need to be pretty, and then after you put your machine(s) in that frame, you just go around the edge with some trim, and you are done. Messy job if you have to cut into drywall, but construction time would be pretty low.

Sakura is absolutely beautiful. The game play is nice with great graphics and detailed video. It's the one I play when I want a break from loud, gaudy, scream at you games.

If there ever was a female pachinko then this one would be the royal princess of beauty, the queen of elegance, the epitome of Japanese culture presented in the form of a game.

It will stand the test of time.

Ya, in-wall mounting is cool. Dishpan did a nice job with his setup. My basement is tiny, but I do have my 2004 Sakura mounted between the wall studs where I cut a hole in the drywall that divides the finished part of the basement from the laundry area. Sakura is a nice machine with a beautiful light show. I'm also trying to get my hands on the 2006 version of it.

Is Sakura it's own machine or is the cell compatible with Lumina/Bisty/Sammy etc.?

    Mr. Sparkle,

It's a Nishijin machine, so its cell won't fit in the above frames.

    Thanks!

Well, I did it... I purchased Sakura from TA yesterday. Now, I have to get a handyman out to wall mount these guys.

Does anyone have a recommendation on the best way to do this? For example, should I purchase a pachinko cabinet from Slot-Pachinko/TA or from PachinkoCabinets.net? If not a cabinet, would a competent handyman know how to do an internal install?

    Sorry for my ignorance.

Also, I will post pics of both Star Wars and Ferrari soon...

    As always, thanks!!!

Put simply they allow you to dispense balls from the upper hopper on the back of the machine directly into your ball shooter tray.

If you're planning to wall mount the machine, then getting access to the back to top up the hopper is kind of a pain, so it's a good idea to invest in a ball lifter unit. This will take the spent balls that come out of the rear of the machine, and lift them back into the top hopper. Arby often has these listed in the auction section of this site (but I can't see any ball lifters listed there at the moment).

With the ball lifter installed, all spent balls will be placed in the upper hopper, which is great for keeping it full ready for payouts, but not so good if you run out of balls to play with. This is where the dongle comes in. It emulates the prepaid card system that is used in the Japanese parlours, which the parlour customers use to dispense balls on the machines they are playing.

Even if you don't have a ball lifter installed, it cuts down on the amount of manual ball handling you have to do. With the dongle all you need to do is empty your spent ball collection tray into the top hopper when it runs out. The dongle also lets you keep track of how much you would have been spending if you were playing in a Japanese pachinko parlour, and allows you to control how much 'credit' is available for play.

The dongles and the optional smartcard system that you can use with it, are available for sale from these listings on the PachiTalk auction site, and along with the links that dishpan posted, I've got a bit more information available on my website as well.
