This could just as easily be seen as something good for our hobby. I seriously doubt it indicates the end of pachinko - it's just way too popular in Japan. I just don't see the Japanese public allowing something that is so purely Japanese be replaced by black jack and roulette. I think all this is more about who runs pachinko parlors and where the money goes.

I suspect they'd adopt similar machine retirement policies as currently exist, which would mean a continuation of used machines needing to be "disposed of". I don't see how being "legal" would change that. In fact, as Ldrizzt and slothappy said, it could potentially increase the flow of "used" machines and result in new innovations to make them even more interactive....since they would have to compete with the more interactive "traditional" gambling.

My only worry is how it might affect import/sales laws here. Right now these are just games that are used to win prizes . If they become directly tied to legalized gambling who knows what some govt bureaucrat might do here.

We definitely shouldn't run out and start buying up every machine in sight, fearing that it'll end soon. All that'll do is drive up prices for no reason whatsoever.

The only things I can think of is they would directly accept 100,500Y coins and 1,000Y bills. There isn't a lot of room for a bill acceptor on a pachislo, and none on a pachinko.

I think this all only means you won't have to go around the corner to cash out, they'll just do it in the parlor.

    Oh I agree.

Hmmmm ok so I'll quietly sneak a few snipe bids in here and there just in case tho....

So are you saying that they would maybe build Pachi's in larger frames then - perhaps the size of US Slots? Or would Pachislo for example just slowly disappear and US Slots take over since Casinos will be legalized?
I guess the question will be : Why have Pachislos when you can have US Slots that have no skill factor and supposively can be regulated easier. That sure would kill off all the so called pachi puros wouldn't it?

I hope they don't legalize casinos in Japan because of above the reasons.

I wonder if "legalizing" gambling in Japan would allow for a different way for the machines to play...no more 15 coin Max win per spin. The Pachislo could become like a US Slot machine.

Yes, that's it. More features on pachinkos and pachislos. More options. Why change the (successful) form when you can change the play...and not change the parlor structure?

    Should be interesting...

Then they'll all have bill/card acceptors and only spit out tickets!

You might be right but unfortunately I think it will go the other way. If it is legalized Japan will become another Las Vegas. The Big Yen boys from here like Wynn etc will bulldoze and put super mega towers up where these parlors used to be. Too much Yen to be ignored by the big players here. It would take a few years but yen talks and unfortunately it also could hurt our hobby say 5-10 years from now. Hopefully they won't legalize it.

Even if they do legalise gamblng in japan, Pachinko and pachislo are so ingrained into japanese culture after 70 odd years I very much doubt if the effect will be felt for a long time to come , certainly longer than we will be around , and besides the japanese have a great ability to live with the old and the new side by side with no problem at all , so im not in the slightest bit worried.

Pachinko parlor = convenience. There are 12,000+ parlors (if I recall) in Japan. This isn't a "go to big casino" country at present. It's a "fall out of office and into parlor" country. And, of course, we know that the manufacturers of our "toys" will be the manufacturers of any "toys" to be used in the future...there's too much political muscle for anything else to happen.

Don't fret. All will be well.
