    Most bee's stingers detach and lodge in 'victim' when they sting, it is a one shot and they die, so they are not quick to sting, like a wasp or hornet is. The muscle around the venom sack will continue to pump venom after the stinger and venom sack is separated from the bee. They are valuable to orchard crops for pollination.
    I would not want them in the house either but sealing the hole in the house should have been step one, step two is ignore the bees. I am very surprised the smoke did not move the bees, bee keepers pump smoke to move bees off of the honey combs.
