    Exclamation New Japanesese electronics Law

This may not affect the Hobby too much since most of the Machines we buy are just over/under 2 years old etc.. but interesting none the less.

That is sooooooooooooooo wrong. I thought government was suppose to be "for the people, all the people". I think there needs to be a revolt in Japan. Of course, I would also think that this would mean that more 2nd had items will be shipped over seas.

Actually that might be great news for our hobby as these laws historically only apply to sales inside Japan.

Did you ever wonder where all those low milage Japanese engines that they sell in the ads in the back of the auto-trader come from? They come straight from the Japanese car inspection program referenced in the article.

I can see all kinds of cool stuff being "dumped" on the american market because they can't re-sell it in Japan.

Japan definetly has a different view of the role of government. The Japanese government has many national strategies to ensure the health of their economy which in turn protects their standard of lving. Certain manufacturing industries are significant drivers of the economy and those industries tend to have laws passed to ensure the stability of the industry, and in turn the stability of the economy. For the past 2 decades the automobile industry in Japan has been one of those industries. It sounds like they have identified the electronics industry as the next most significant driver of the economy and they are taking steps to ensure the health of their electronics industry. One side effect of these type of policies is that companies tend to be quite confidient in investing in long-term improvements, which over time, result in their manufacturing industry being one of the strongest in the world.

In other words, it results in them kicking our ass in the long run

That will never be enforced. Selling used videogames is also illegal but that doesn't stope the millions of game stores (including some major chains) from doing it. I'm guessing the law is just a formality.
