    Talking Newcomer with a Nishijin!

Hello all! My love of poor pachinko machines goes back almost 30 years when I was first allowed to play on one in a friend's basement. It was HOURS of enjoyment for me. Over the years we have come across machines in very very poor shape, mostly gutted and/or neglected past the point of no return. Until now, I haven't even thought to buy one.
However, my thoughtful husband surprised me with this beautiful creature of a pachinko machine.

    IMG_20120312_113447.jpg

The first thing I did was look for any numbers on it that could help me to identify it. I have come across "Patent 715180". I looked around on the interwebs and found scant info, but a lot of fun things to read about people restoring them. I *think* this one is late 60-70s. Right now sadly there is no key to the case, and the machine is encased in wood. My husband will help me to gently take it apart to inspect the insides lately to help learn more about it later this week, so right now I can speculate

I can't wait to make this a part of my bedroom!

Welcome to PachiTalk!! Thanks for taking the time to join our site and post about your wonderful machine. We really appreciate it. (we also think your husband is really cool for giving you such a neat gift! )

You have a Nishijin Model A recycler-style machine. These are know as a recycler because the losing balls recycle in the back to become the jackpot payout balls, therefore greatly reducing the amount of time and effort needed to refill the upper reward ball hopper. They are very fun machines to play.

You will find lots of help and support in this forum. Many of us started with Pachinko's much in the same way as you. Do be careful, though. These machine have a bad habit of multiplying quickly.

Regarding a date for your machine, if you could post some clear and close-up pics of any stickers around the play field, we can help you decipher the date code and get a good estimate of the manufacture date.

Thanks again for joining our community and posting about your machine! Please visit us daily and post often.

I would try to bring my pachinkos into the bedroom, but my wife would probably make me sleep in the garage...where the pachinkos currently reside.
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

Here is the information on your year machine.

The machines never had keys for the locks unless someone replaced the lock.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. And once again welcome to PT.

Well that went horribly wrong, how do I edit posts please? Odd, that last post doesn't have the option to be edited. Or deleted..

I know the photos are a wee bit blurry, but my phone doesn't take the greatest of pictures. The chrome is rusty, the front panel is replaced with plexiglass- which I plan on replacing with real sparkling glass someday. I'm excited!
And I will post the pics again in a sec. If someone with mod powers could delete that post, I would be grateful

There we go. Sorry if some pics are blurry, it's a phone, not a camera for me. The background is a medium cream color with what looks like water-marking on it from water damage but nothing so far seems swollen or rotten in it. The whole thing is encased in wood, so we will disassemble it to view the insides. When I peek down the top it looks dirty with some dead leaves so I want to carefully take it out of the box it was put in. The chrome is rusty and needs some love. The front is plexiglass which I will replace with real glass when it comes time. The colors are nice and intact and still bright, no fading or flaking. I've never played a pachinko machine that really lit up so that is my goal here! I have the corner of my nice big room picked out for it all ready!

I love the "Super Tulip" center feature!

The best (and easiest) way to clean up the chrome is to use a wad of #000 and/or #0000 steel wool. It will take the rust off with minimal effort. There are many more tips for cleaning the machine in this thread: http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...o-machine.html Take a look through it when you are ready to start cleaning.

Once the machine is cleaned up we will happy to help you with the lights. Connecting them up is really quite simple - no background in electronics is needed. You just need to know how to use a soldering iron.

I look forward to seeing your progress on this machine. Please keep the pictures coming. That is our "fee" for helping you along.

Actually, that machine is a 1972. It would definitely be a style "A" because Nishijin did not make style "B" machines until 1973. Excellent project machine, it should be great fun to play once you have restored it.
