My New Toy

I had promised for a few weeks now to post a video of my new toy, particularly for Johntafva.

What is it, well it is a Nokia N800 internet tablet, it is not a phone and does not have any phone connections with it. It is primarly a mobile device for connecting to the internet, pretty much anytime, anywhere - although it does have may applications that do not require any internet connection. I connect to the internet either via wi-fi at home or when out & about using wi-fi hot spots. Or I can connect using my 3G cell phone via Bluetooth.

The device is a linux device & the great thing about the N800 is that it is not locked in any way, it is completely open source. The massive advantage of this is that developers are able to develop additional applications to load onto the device, all of which are free to download.

The video below is the official Nokia advert that was used to promote the launch of the device (but my own view is that the advert does not do it justice). The second video in the next post is the video I shot showing some of the free applications that I have added to my N800. The quality is not great (sorry) & it doesn't really show all the functions properly - but it will give you an idea of its functionality.

The other thing to mention is that these are now on sale brand new for around $230 from places like buy.com

This is sweet, how much storage comes on this unit?

The device has 2 SD card slots, the biggest SD cards you can buy at the minute are 8GB each I believe - so that makes a total 16GB. I have 2 x 4GB in mine at the minute and haven't even filled one yet, even with 4 full movies, loads of video & 100's of MP3 's

Honestly this device comes virtually everywhere with me now. I will try post some much better videos of each application in my members page when I get back from holiday.

If you search youtube by putting in Nokia N800 you will find loads more really good videos showing the N800 and what it can do.

I received my Archos 605 160 GB on Monday and have been having a lot of fun with it. I have even posted a couple post with it. I have already downloaded all 500 Cd's I own. And now I am working on downloading movies. I plan putting about 100 movies on it. Movies look stunning when played back on the Archos.

This devise also has an optional helmet cam which I purchased for it.

LD - for the difference in price it has to be the N800 all the way, the 770 is no where near as powerful as the N800. My wife has the 770 but I am treating her to an N800 now that the price of the N800 has dropped to around £149 in the UK.
