I played this one before. It's OK but possibly not as high quality as it looks though.

It's a bit old (three years now) so might be hard to find. The 3D screen is a little hokey and was used for a couple of other machines (whose titles I can't recall). The reaches are kind of mediocre and not much of a light show either.

As far as the translation of the title, we would have to use the original "Ukiyo-e" (Oo-key-oh Ay) because that's already an accepted term in art.

Because of your avatar, I read that in the voice of Yoda. Mmmmm room for one more always there is. Inner voice you should listen to. Yes. Machine buy you should.

    Actually, that seems pretty cheap.

Augh! Just when I'd thought I'd made up my mind.I still really like the looks of it, but since Rupan says it doesn't play very well, I'm hesitant. It doesn't matter how good it looks if the gameplay is subpar.

If you were me, would you get the Sakura or the Ukiyo-e ("Tsunami")?

    Sakura pros:
High-definition LCD display (supposedly.. is it really high-def, or is that just dealer hyperbole for "sharp"?)
    Better gameplay

    Sakura cons:
Lots of pink and black. A bit feminine (no offense, girls).

    Ukiyo-e pros:
    Nice theme.
    Real 3D display

    Ukiyo-e cons:
    Older machine
    Not as well made
    Less enjoyable gameplay (?)

First, let me say I have never played either.

If it was me, and the price was the same, I would go with the Sakura. I tend to gravitate towards the newer machine.

    A couple of questions.
    1. How did you narrow it down to these two.
    2. Did you read the musuem reviews?

Here's how I narrowed it down:
    * I liked the looks of those machines.
    * They cost under $300.

I also like Mr. Vampire, but with a pricetag around $700 I can't justify it.

I hadn't read the reviews of Ukiyo-e because I didn't know the manufacturer and it was under a different name. Unfortunately, Sakura has no reviews.

    Noobie,

Take it from someone who has spent considerable enough with both machines, the Sakura machine is much better. The Ukiyo-e is really just an average machine with a single gimmick (the "3-D") which is kinda keen for a few minutes.

Advice well received. I trust your opinion, as you seem to really know (and care) about which you speak.

Interestingly Arby gave Ukiyo-e a good review in the museum.

Well, I'm not saying it's a bad machine but, with Sakura, one will think "Wow, that's gorgeous" whereas with Ukiyo-e, one might think, "Oh that's nice". Unowatimsayin'?

Great to hear. I promise you that it's a great machine with deep gameplay, fairly rare in the pachinko world.
