Default Problem with Taiyo Elec Apollo machine

Hello everyone...new to the forums here and am looking for some help. It would be greatly appreciated.

Quick story...I won a nice Apollo machine in a poker tournament (2nd place prize). I brought it home and plugged it in. Loaded some balls (came with the unit so I'm assuming they are the right ones). Plugged it in and everything turned on nicely. However, nothing happens.

I have powered it on and off and have noticed 2 things.

    1. There is a code in the front digital read-out: 52
    2. After a series of checks, the #5 LED on the lower bottom panel stays lit.

Any thoughts as to what may be happening? Am I missing somehting really simple?

    Thanks again for any help.

    1. Do you have balls loaded in the top rear hooper and the front top ball tray?
    2. When you turn the shooter knob, is there a clunking sound if no balls are being shot?

While I can't comment on your questions, I can say welcome and commend you on your poker win and unique prize. Taiyo Elec machines are fairly uncommon because the company is relatively small but they also make some of the more creatively unique machines in the industry. The title of the machine is actually Apollo One (アポロ1号) and is a running subgenre series of machines that few manufacturers produce called "Areppachi" incorporating features of the older "wing" type machines and modern digital pachinko. I saw in the museum that there were some comments about gameplay and whatnot; you should check them out.

    Thanks for the replies.

The unit does turn on and I have balls in both the top rear hopper and the front ball tray. There is no action when I plug it in and turn it on. The shooter knob does nothing. I press the red and the blue buttons; nothing. In fact, what are those for? Also, I noticed a small yellow button (looks like a reset button) under the front tray.

The person who gave it to me indicated it worked fine. I can see that it's been used.

It is an Apollo one. It's yellow with a black case. Very nice unit. Any thoughts?

Hey thanks luckdog. Indeed, there is no dongle on the back, just the connector.

Does this unit need one? If so, any ideas on where I can get one? Or do I have to make it?

If you can post a picture of the buttons you are talking about, I can probably tell you what they do. I can't find a picture of the full machine online, only the cel.

    Thanks.

In that case, the explanation of the buttons is simple but unnecessary for your needs, Atlas. The red button is the "ball lend" button, and the blue one is the "card eject" button. In Japan, players usually have to buy a pre-paid data card to play, stick the card in, press the red button and the balls come out of the "hole" area just above the ball well. To get your card back (if you are moving to a different machine, etc), press the blue button.

    First of all...thanks to all.

I stopped by my neighborhood Radio Shack and picked up all the parts to make a dongle (actually 2 of each knowing my luck on trying to make it on the first try )

I actually got it together on the first try, plugged it in, filled it with balls, and now it's working great!! My kids are having a blast.

Case closed and thanks again for everyone's help! I apprecaite it!

    Indeed!

My wife laughed at me when I made this initial post. I told her to never underestimate the power of the Internet. There is a forum for just about everything online...full of people who have tons of information.

Thanks again for everyone's help. Hopefully one day I can return the favor
