    Talking Oiley Balls, Oiley Balls...

This make sense to me but that dosent mean its sensible. So someboby tell me where the downside is.

If these old 'Vintage' machines have been sitting around getting rusty or deteriorating, would there be any advantage to running oily balls thru' the system for awhile?
I dont mean balls right out of an oil can & dripping crude everywhere.
But what if you laid some balls out on a flat suface, say 100-200 balls, & then sprayed them with some WD40?
Then just played that 100 balls for a few days & let them run thru all the areas that balls run?

I know theres alot of plastic that the balls wouldnt ( would they? ) affect but what about the other areas. The inner tracks, ball shooter mechanism etc.
My biggest concern would be the playfield & getting the WD40 on the laminate. If its very lite, would it hurt? Would it benefit the nails?

The optimum way to do this would be to take the machine apart & clean & oil each part that needed or required oiling.
But, I dont & wont have the kind of time to dismantle 10 machines for awhile & Im just thinking about trying to retard the progress of any rusting, freezing or deterioration of parts that may be going on that I cant see without taking them apart.

    Soooooo, what do you think?

Any oil (or oil like substance) in any of the ball races is just going to attract dust. I would think the better thing to use would be Pledge (asside from it's lemony freshness!). Makes it slick, repels dust.

As long as there is no corrosion, all the moving parts work pretty well without any lube.

Thumbs down Re: Oiley Balls, Oiley Balls...

    Don't do it!
    WD40 is a dust/crud magnet.
The vintage machines all work on gravity, just a small ammount of crud will stop them from working. I can only imagine what that stuff will do to the playing field. Not to mention what will happen when the WD40 drys out.

Yes, any oil does attract dust.

You are better off keeping your balls clean, dry and shiny

Clean them once in awhile and you should be ok

Yep, I think you'd gum it up more than help by running WD-40 through, doo. The mechanisms need to be clean and dry to operate the best.

Doodude I thought I was going to have to you a couple times to bring you around, because you surly had to been dreaming.

Fuller Brush made a long flex brush (black bristle) about two feet long, one inch dia. will work great in cleaning the ball runs.

I also use a flex picker-upper with large cotton ball (the kind you get at beauty supplies) works great too!

I clean with 180 grain alcohol (Everclear) leaves no residue, like rubbing alcohol. It cuts the nicotine and tar, also the boggers too!

    Clean runs best

And do you take a little nip of that Everclear when you clean those machines, Arby?
