    Default Dimensions... Vintage vs. Modern

Hi gang, I'm a pachislo owner (Marine Battle [yellow submarine]) and I have recently begun throwing my hard earned $$ at Pachinkos.

My goal is to have two (yes, only two!) pachinkos in our gameroom. A vintage and a modern one. I just purchased a Pink Panther machine and now I'm hunting for a vintage.

I would like to mount the two machines side-by-side with Kick-The-Fog's wall cabinets. Are the dimensions of the 60's/70's machines the same as the newer ones? Or will I have two completely different dimension machines?

    ---------
My thought/complaint/gripe for the day... When selling a pachinko on ebay, sellers have "lot's of ball bearings" yet claim "I don't know anything about these and don't know if it works".

How could you have balls and a machine and NOT try it !?!?!
Hmmmmm..... Maybe I'll pass on those sales.

    Cordially,
    Ken

    Hi Ken & welcome aboard.

Good point about the Sellers who dont know anything about the machines! They can always claim they informed you they didnt know when it gets there & its a rag...

I think the Vintage & Moderns are the same size. I have both & if they are different I havent noticed.
    ( I havent measured either... )

Thanks DooDude! If you don't notice a difference side-by-side, I'll bet the sizes are pretty darn close. My thinking is that if they changed the basic size of the machines, the Pachinko Parlors in Japan would have to retool their whole set up ($$ and aggrivation for business owners).

Sid... Good point about the car!!

Ken, they are basically the same size. I have my vintage and modern machines in identical sized cabinets. As Arby mentioned, the new ones might be slightly thicker, though.

The Gameroom Cabinet on eBay sells the very nice cabinets I use and these cabinets work well with both the vintage and modern machines. See link below:

The one's I've bought from people that claim to know nothing about them typically don't even try to use the machine, they picked it up cheap at a yard sale and try to sell it for big bucks on ebay because they see others going for that, they get tired of re listing it when it won't sell and they are just trying to get their investment back. Also more often than not they don't have enough balls to allow the machine to work, so they will flip a couple of balls and not get a payout and figure it does not work.

You know, I can see someone who is unaware of how a pachinko works putting a load of balls into the hopper & watching them all roll out of the back & onto the floor & deciding not to do that again!

So, where that makes sense I still feel a little skeptical everytime I read,
"I dont know anything about these, but it looks like its all here!"

    Slotter,
Thanks for posting that photo. That's very similar to what I have in mind for our room.

Arby... Thanks for the depth info. I had read somewhere (probably here) that the depth of the new ones is deeper.

    Thanks for all the help!

    DooDude,

Funny you should mention that... Here's the reply I got from an eBay seller (auction 6214866430). I asked her to put some balls in the machine and try it:

"...I tried putting the silver balls into the tray in the back to get them into the machine, however, they ended up coming out of a slot in the back. The flipper does go up and down, but as for what makes it go, I'm at a loss. Sorry. If you have any ideas, please let me know. redheadtweetybird"

Yep, its just like giving someone driving directions to someplace theyve never been.

Just cuz you drive the same route, back & forth, all the time, dosent mean a stranger knows about, "the fork in the road that leads to the Dairy Queen!"

    Hi Slotter,

Thanks again for posting the pics of your cabinets. Being a bit of a woodworker, I'm going to build my own (that way I can spend way more than what I could buy them for! )

I was wondering if you could tell me how the little hinged ball return door at the bottom of the cabinet works? Do the balls just tumble out when you open the door or is there a basket of some sort in there?

I'm also curious about the purpose of the hole on the right sides of the cabinets. In the photo they appear to be about 2" or so in diameter and just below half way down the cabinet.

    Thanks so much!
    Ken

The balls fall down to thin boards that are slanted at the bottom to direct the balls to the little door so they fall out. (Have a tray or bucket handy to catch 'em!) As you can see in the below pictures, I've laid thin rubber shelf liner inside to quiet the noise of the falling balls. Also, the hole in the cabinet side is to allow easy access to the levers that open the cabinet.
