Exclamation Keep it sharp! Keep it Clean!

I talked to a friend last night & somehow the subject turned to disposable razors.

Anyway, after trying a variety of razors, electric, straight, etc we both have come to use the Gillette 3 blade disposable. If you too use them you know they are a little costly. But hey, you only have one face. At least most of us do.

So I was telling him how to keep it sharp longer & more sanitary & I thought Id pass this on to the members here in case you dont already know.

Firstly, its the water & air that dulls the blade. After you shave & put away the razor, the minerals from the water begin to corrode the blades. Its just a natural action.

So to stop this, I use one of those plastic tooth brush holders that have a cup & a top, usually with 4 holes in the top for sticking the toothbrush in. This way they stand up straight.

In the bottom I put about an inch of alchohol ( rubbing, no Jack Daniels ) Then I store my razor upside down ( the blade in the alchohol )
I tape over the other 3 holes to limit the exposure of the air & stick the remaining hole over the razor handle.

This keeps the corrosion down to nothing & the blades last & last & last &...
Its also more sanitary than having your dead skin & possible blood traces left on the blade waiting for you on your next shave.

    Hope this is useful...

I use an electric shaver myself. It has a little tub it sits in at night, charging and its dipped in it's own alcohol bath. Not sure if I'd ever go back to a straight blade now. I pay about $25 a year for a new blade on this one.

Now if you're really wanting to get low-tech, you can avoid Doo's recommendation and get yourself a pyramid, face it due north, not magnetic north, it can be a simple frame pyramid as there's no need for sides. Place your razor under this pyramid and it will keep your razor's sharp. It will also keep your bread fresher, longer. The Chinese have been using this method for quite a long time now.

Speaking of needles.... they took knitting needles away from an 80 year old indian lady at the airport....they were afraid she was going to knit an afgan on the plane (ha ha ha).
