Default Pioneer "Haibi Thirty" Token recognition issue

Hey everyone, new to this, but generally pretty good with mechanical/electronic stuff. Friend picked up this machine at an estate sale for me to put in mountain cabin. It worked at the sale, but once i got it home and started playing with it, seems to not be recognizing the tokens. All lights etc seem in good working order, fairly clean inside etc. Have tried reset, reset key does activate coin bypass, able to change odds, but when i insert the tokens nothing happens. Have read up on some common issues, only thing that seems odd is that the max bet diagnostic light inside remains lit, turns off on button press, i would have expected the opposite there. All other buttons seem to activate the internal LED indicators. Checked all connections etc. when I detach the coin mech wire harness a loud alarm goes off. Might try taking out and cleaning/looking inside the coint/token mech next, or try to replace it and see what happens. Any and all help is much appreciated! Pictures attached.

    WELCOME!!!

I can't really help, but a lot of times when transported, cables can get knocked around, so unplugging and re plug them in often solves random problems!!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah that was my assumption, that something got jostled around in moving it.

I actually fixed it last night...

I removed the coin mech and noticed that the sensor was slightly misaligned. It was tilted slightly vertically, and out of the little detent that positions it. This allowed it to shift a tiny bit laterally as well, so the tokens were getting stuck up against one side of the little inverted U shaped channel and never passing through.

What was odd was, once I repositioned the sensor to the intended position, the slot was too short to allow the tokens that came with the machine (I believe they're 30mm, definitely larger than a quarter, more like half-dollar size.). So i adjusted it again vertically, out of the detent, but tightened the screw so it could not shift laterally. My guess is someone tweaked it for the larger tokens, and being not exactly in the right vertical alignment allowed it to shift slightly when it was transported.

So all good now, just need to decide if i'm going to order 30mm tokens or 25mm and just fix it back to the way it was intended.

Read somewhere that the 30mm tokens are a bit unusual and were used on US military bases in Japan, which is interesting. These particular tokens also are weirdly expensive- like $3-$6 each on ebay, so that probably explains why it came with only a handful of them.

Yay!! I'm glad you got it working!!

Since the machine was designed for 30mm tokens (hence the Thirty in the name), I' say stick with those..

Big tokens are only used in these Okinawa type machines and not many make it over here these days since they are pretty basic compared to other machines, so not a lot of tokens to buy here these days..

    I did find these..

    Thanks MrGneiss and takethecastle57!

That makes sense - the "Thirty" thing didn't occur to me LOL.

I would imagine the hopper mechanism is token specific too? I'll order some of these tokens from Japan and see how it goes. Thanks for the links!

Now my only other remaining issue is that the key broke off in the lock, I can get it open by sticking my hand inside from below but swapping the lock out doesn't seem too difficult.
