The laptop industry (IMO) has not really reduced the price much, if at all.
Laptops are still at a premium if you want something capable of replacing your desk top.
If you just want to email, surf the web or do light word processing & dont need or want much power & can live with intergrated graphics & sound, then you can get them on the cheap.
I bought a refurbished DELL Inspiron 8100 with the trimmings for $1200 4 years ago & its my go to laptop even today.
I just bought a new DELL XPS w/4ghz, 1 g ddr, 256 mb ATI 9800, 100 g HD etc etc for over 3K so I could have desktop power on the road. I got it as a gaming/graphics ( Bryce, Poser, Photo Shop ) machine because my 8100 couldnt handle the new graphics.
So the moral of the story I guess is you get what you pay for when it comes to laptops. But if you dont/wont need/want it then dont pay for it.
Dattia have you seen the new Ladies laptops? I forget who makes them but they are super lite/thin & come in girlie colors. I dont think they are too expensive either.

I have a Toshiba now, but I am thinking about going with a different brand. Maybe Dell or HP. However, seeing as I am SUCH a girlie girl, I think I'll look for the colored one that you are talking about. A pink laptop, that is right up my alley. Thanks!
