    Default Arcade Pachinko

I picked up these two machines a few weeks ago. The seller was selling them as a set and wouldn't separate them. I was looking for just a Model A to convert into an arcade style machine. But, it was only $30 for the set and the center feature on the Model B was interesting and could use it on the Model A.

My plan is to buy the parts, I need, to convert the Model A into a Arcade Pachinko Machine. Similar to a computer pachinko machine. I'll need to get a couple of solenoids for the jackpot and opening the tulips, a arcade button to start the game and a digital counter to keep score, which I have a Gaku counter that will work.

I enjoy playing the computer/arcade style machines better than a regular Pachinko machine. The main reason is you don't have to mess with the balls. All the balls are contained in the machine and used just to play the game.

When friends are over and play the machines and I explain that when the shooter tray gets full you slide the knob and they empty into the lower tray and then you take those and put into a container and then you need to quit playing and empty that container into the hopper on the back of the machine.
They are like "WHAT!", I just want to play.

With an arcade machine you press the button to start a game. The machine dumps a predetermined amount of balls into the shooter tray, 3 tulips open and the score is reset. There is a beginning and an end to the game, (unlike regular pachinko). Depending how well you play the machine. When you score a ball into a pay pocket/tulip you do win balls, to keep you playing, and scores 10 for each win. (pretty much just like any other arcade game, you would play).

I do have the Model A all stripped down, getting it cleaned up. I also removed the center feature from the Model B and took it apart and repainted it.
I made a copy of the nail placement from the Model B playfield, so I could use it to make new nail holes in the Model A playfield. I drilled the new nail holes and plugged the old ones with toothpicks. (the green marked holes are the new ones and the red marked are the old ones). So, I will know which holes to punch when the new playfield is on.

Nice find, congrats. The center feature of the cowboy bent over and looking between his legs at you is hilarious!

There are a few modifications that need to be made.

The area on the jackpot ramp that would let overflow balls drop down into the lower tray, needs closed off.
Also, the overflow area on the hopper ramp. I closed the areas by gluing in a small piece of metal.

A new pathway for the winning balls also needs to be created, so they return to the shooter tray with the jackpot balls.
I used the existing ball channel, (that the winning ball would take down to the "spoon" lever), cutting it in half and redirecting it to the jackpot ramp.
The ball channel already has a slit in it that the spoon lever moved up and down in. The slit will be a good place, for when I mount a photo sensor to coun;t the winning ball.

Most everything is cleaned, shined and paint touched up.

I did get the door put back together. The chrome frame cleaned up fairly well, but the chrome on the shooter tray door had some bad pitting.
So, I sanded it and painted it.

The shooter tray was in pretty good shape and cleaned up well. I did decide to give it some white accents.
I made a plexiglas cover to cover the tray. Heated the plexiglas, with a heat gun, and bent the curve in it. Then laid it on the shooter tray and outlined the shape of it. Cut it out using a jig-saw. It is attached to the tray with epoxy.

I'm using a illuminating arcade button to start the game and is mounted where the lower tray use to be. I need this button to operate two switches, so I made a new bracket for the button and now it operates both switches, using the 2 contact points on either side of the button.

Keeping with the Western / Cowboy and Indians themed center feature.
I decided to do the same with the playfield design.

The front of the playfield is pretty much put back together.

Using a cover, from a Sankyo machine, cutting the top and bottom of it off. So, it would fit the area of the scoring window. The opening in the cover originally would of let you seen balls in the hopper, but once modified, worked well for the scoring window.

I also used a different cover for the payout lights, (upper left of playfield), it was from a model B machine. Just had to cut part of the curve off, so it would fit.

I got the back all put together and everything seems to working good.

It plays very similar to a computer pachinko. A computer pachinko requires you to deposit a quarter to start the game and dumps the jackpot 3 times, opens the tulips and resets the counter. Scores 10 points for each "hit pocket" and every 100 points, you get a replay/free game.

What I'm calling this machine is an Arcade version of this. The machine is free play, you press the Start button and the jackpot dumps once, the tulips open and the counter is reset. If you wanted more balls to start with, just press the Start more than once.

The gameplay is exactly the same, scoring 10 points for each "hit pocket". You don't get a replay for each 100 points, but it really doesn't matter because it's a free play machine. Your playing for a high score, not a free game.

Here are some pictures and a video of it working.
