Windy in Florida today and tomorrow. I'll get the tray painted as soon as it dies down.

Thanks you, don't rush it, I'm not in any big hurry, I've still got a ways to go on this one.

Got half of the brass nails cleaned, so much easier to pull them and toss them in a tumbler, but this machine has a formica playfield, so I'm having to clean them in place.

Yeah, give or take a couple! Had to take a break after about 2 hours, just too tedious.

I hate doing it that way, but sure looks good when you get done.

Finished polishing the nails today, then cleaned 50 years of grime off of the playfield, which only accented the cracks in the formica more, but still looks better in my opinion.

Spent the better part of today with a brass wire wheel on a drill motor, a Dremel with various wire brush attachments and 4/0 steel wood trying to remove rust from the chromed frame. Pretty happy with the outcome, it's got some patina character to it now.

Also put a coat of polyurethane on the back of the playfield board and the frame to freshen it up a bit. After that dried, started reassembling the front and back.

Anybody have a Daiichi machine they're parting out?

When I was taking this apart, the ears broke off of the red piece that goes above the center attraction. No big deal, used emery paper and rounded / polished the corners, figured I'd just drill a couple of new holes when I go to put it back.

Fast forward to today, went to put it back in place, started to drill the holes, got 1 hole drilled, went to drill the second and the piece shattered in to multiple little pieces. Since the balls hit this piece, gluing isn't going to hold it.

Didn't see anything like it on eBay and sent a message to Pachinkoboy to see if they might be parting out a Daiichi.

Rear has an opening for the ball to exit on the right side (see picture).

If it's plastic and you have the pieces...i can put it back together again just like the tray....send it to me and let me try.

I just bought one of these machines last week but my center feature is different.

The Daiichi you just picked up looks like it's in very good shape, congrats!

Thanks, I'm not sure if it's worth trying, the two "ears" on top that had the original nails holding it both broke off trying to remove it. I thought drilling new holes just below it would solve it, but only caused it to break in two other locations.

Do you think it would be able to withstand balls bouncing and hitting it after repairs?

Awesome! Here are some better pictures of where the pieces broke off, I may have made things worse by trying to "fix" the damage myself, let me know what you think.

The "ears" on the upper right and left top disintegrated trying to remove the rusted nails, already had a crack on R/S, so I used emery paper to round and smooth the jagged edges. When the center piece above the "cross" broke, I did the same thing, smoothed the jagged edges on the remaining piece, hoping I'd be able to salvage it, then I just made things worse trying to drill holes. I originally thought the two long brass nails would just hold it in place, but when I went to mount it, the top bowed outwards, that's when I had the not so brilliant idea to drill two new small holes, which in turn lead to catastrophic cracking, probably should have removed it from the playfield so there wasn't strain on the mounting points.

Front & rear almost complete, much thanks to SibSr for offering to work his magic on the two damaged plastic pieces as well as Wayne-Ooo for offering an entire new rear upper ball tray.

The wiring and lamp socket to the center jackpot had been cut and removed, so I spliced some new wire and lamp socket, along with a LED bulb, just need to connect my 9V battery box.

If anybody is familiar with how the Daiichi is set up for the out of balls micro switch to work, let me know. From what I can see either the button on the top of the micro switch is depressed or missing or the bottom of the out of balls lever that activates it is too short (see picture). Either way it's not making contact.

Thanks for the pictures, I'm going to try to use a pencil eraser and or something similar to recreate the missing button.
