Interesting, I'm having this issue and will have to give it a shot. Its' weird though, on my machine, the only optical sensor is for the jackpot payout, I can't see how it would have any impact on the start game ball dump. I'll try just about anything though!

My machine is the same, with only the sensor for the jackpot payout. But, having the light inside fixed the issue of startup ball dumps.

You might try playing with the door open first, to see if has any effect.

I've played for 5 days now, since adding the LED light strip, and have had no issues at all.

I've tried several different scenarios by depositing a coin as soon as I turn it ON, playing for an hour straight, turning the machine ON and waiting for 2 hours to put a coin in. No matter the situation, it always gives 3 payouts at the start of a game.

My wife wanted some under counter lighting 15 or so years back.. bought a light strip like yours but it was way to bright.. we covered it with 2 layers of the blue painters tape and it has been on ever since.. day night.. just enough lite to be prefect

most excellent problem solving and solution

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be my issue. Very cool that you were able to solve yours though, and thank's for putting it out there!

Sorry to hear that. I was hoping it would fix your problem also.

This machine is proving to be a challenge.

I hadn't play it for several days and the other morning turned it ON to play and I had the same issue as before. It only dumped once, instead of 3 times, when you deposited a coin.

So, long story short, I used the same reasoning as before. What has changed?
The only thing that changed was the weather. Instead of the temperature being in the 60's or 70's, it had been cold, with the temperature in the 30's.
My machines are kept in the garage and is only heated when I'm out there tinkering. The ambient temperature was probably in the 40's inside the garage.

So, I placed a small space heater inside the cabinet for about 4 or 5 minutes to heat it up.
After heating it up, I removed the heater, closed the door , deposited a coin and it worked just fine, dumping the balls 3 times for the start of the game.
I played for about an hour with no problems.

I have no idea what component needed to be warmed up to function properly.
For the last 3 days I've gone to test this theory. Every time the machine malfunctions till I warm it up inside. Then it works just fine after a 4 or 5 minute warm up.

So, this machine also has to be warm for it to operate correctly.
