I took the brass nails out of the tumbler. They came out perfect and look much nicer than the picture.

This is a rough layout for my playfield. The small NASA and Apollo circles will be glued to the spinners.

Looks as if things are starting to take shape. It's looking really good.

For what's it's worth, I would suggest opening the hole where the nail passes through the sticker.

I have found that it doesn't take much for the nail to get "hung up" and not let the spinner spin freely.

I use a 1/8 hole punch to clean up and enlarge the hole in the sticker before applying it to the spinner.

The outer ply on the back side of the playfield came loose in a couple places and needed to be glued.

Nice job! One of mine did the same thing, I should have glued it like you did yours, instead I used some very small finishing nails, but mine was under the edge of the frame, so it didn't show. Yours is a much cleaner way of fixing it.

I learned the process when I restored pinball playfields. 50 year old plywood often has delaminating on the outer ply. The front is more of a concern, but why not do the back to.

My first attempt at a custom playfield is done, but I’m not sure if it should be printed like this. Several of the pictures contain background that go with the picture. I’m starting to think I should remove their background and just use the main focus. For example I can use just the rocket and not the sky and platform. Another example would be to use just the astronaut and not the moon surface. I have enough material to start over and will just have to print more pictures. Which way do you think I should go?

Well, it wouldn't be the first time I started over on a playfield design.

Really, I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. I'd cut out some images without the background and lay them out to see what they look like and compare to what you already have. Then decide what you like best.

I had a similar quandary when I tried using shamrock wrapping paper as the background on the one I just did, wasn't happy with the look. Like Wayne-Ooo suggested, I cut out the art and put it on a plain, white poster board and was much happier with the look.

Do you have a picture of your second attempt?

I’m working on a sign commemorating Apollo 11. It’s a work in progress and I do realize the emblem is crooked. Is this a good add?

PS I’m doing the playfield over to remove the background from some of the pictures.
