    Default Three star

haven’t seen any threads on “Three Star” machines. Seems to be a lot of reoccurring names on here but didn’t see any titles about this brand? was wondering if anyone could give me a little bit of knowledge on this particular piece? I’ve spent the last few days doing my best to wipe the never ending march of time off of it because it’s been around for years collecting dust. And hairs. And bugs. And more dust. My grandfather got this a long time ago and I used to play with it down his basement as a kid. I rescued it from the dustyness and dampness when I was younger and just now have pulled it out and cleaned it up. Everything works except for the lights cause I haven’t jumped into that yet (not lack of know-how, just lack of time). It seems to only have 1 bulb that lights when it jackpots. Is having only one light typical? Just curious if anyone’s familiar with these or can give me any info or insight into it? This is my first machine, first post, first week in the hobby. Just grab me by the shoulders and kick me in the right direction!

There’s a ton of lesser known pachinko manufactures; many of them used the same parts as some of the more popular bigger manufactures. It’s always cool to have something different! That said; most aren’t worth any more than your dime a dozen Nishijin or Sanyo. Unless they have some special features like electric powered center features or tulips or extra tulips/pockets it’s the same value as your typical 70s Nishijin. Most of the small companies went under; although some are still around today. Three Star didn’t make it to the modern era.

Looks like it’s complete to me. Maybe it’s a “base” model that was cheaper if it doesn’t have a low ball level light like most machines do? Good luck with the cleaning!

Okay cool so that’s why google wasn’t giving me anything! It looks like there’s a lever in the ball rail coming out of the loading hopper so I think I’m going to try to rig up a low ball light. Possibly some LEDs on the more see-through plastics for a little extra backlighting. Seems like a good move since it’s not something extra valuable as an all-original piece. As far as value goes I’m going to get 100 times it’s worth once it’s mounted and I can show my grandmother who’s 95 years old now. Thanks for the info! If anyone has a machine with similar mechanisms/back pieces that look familiar so maybe the parts would be interchangeable let me know so I at least have a kick off point if something breaks?.

So I’ve changed out the lights to LED, added a pressure switch for the ball hopper, and rewired it so that it all functions properly. Plays pretty smoothly! The next thing is a wall mount cabinet and a piece of glass for the inside frame and I’ll move the plexiglass to the outside groove. Should I be using tempered glass? And if so what’s a typical thickness? Seems to be just a hair thicker than 1/8?

Nope, I'm good with all snack stuff but a phrase from the Food O Mat from Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy "Share and Enjoy" comes to mind.

Machine looks really nice, like the way you were able to add the out of balls switch & lights.

Regarding glass, I came across this thread when I was looking to replace mine, someone had posted that tempered has a tendency to "explode".

Thanks sparky! Nice fox body! Going to have to find a glass shop near me then. I'll go with standard glass. Probably going to start my wall mount cabinet this weekend and see if i can't get the lock off and to a locksmith for a working key. And then as soon as i get this hung up i know im going to be hunting for another one XD. too much doesnt exist and enough is never enough!

Recyclers are the best “regular” pachinko you can get! Much less ball shuffling needed. I restored one in about the same shape as yours; same center feature.

I modernized the playfield a bit though!

Novus 3 step polish will bring back dull or scratched plastic to like new and shiny.
