Purpose of this wide ball slot

Hello, I recently got a Nishijin pachinko machine, and along with the usual tulips and cups, it also has two of these green catchers (one shown in photo). The cup above the slot makes sense to me, but what's the purpose of the wide slot beneath the cup? You can manually insert balls into the slot when the glass is open and trigger a payout, but I can't imagine how a ball could ever ricochet into the slot during normal play. Does anyone have any insights into the purpose of this feature? Thanks! --wgrover

Pachinko balls do two things religiously, find their way onto a floor/crevice/pets mouth etc and holes/gaps on playfields. They may not frequent those gapping holes as often as a bucket, but they'll find their way in eventually.

It's a "spend your money to get in that slot " It is just like these Super Loto you'll just keep on spending money hoping for the large payday .

Balls will find their way into the slot, as Silverballs has already stated.

Bending the 4 nails below the slot, upward, will increase your chances of the balls entering the slot.

Thank you Silverballs, takethecastle57, and Wayne-Ooo, that makes a lot of sense. I guess the slot worked because I keep playing trying to get a ball in there! Might try adjusting the nails down the road.
