    Default Mo' Lights-Mid 70's Hiewa-Drilling Holes

I've seen a couple of posts where people put LED light strips in these machine.

    My machine for reference:

    Pacbked.jpg

Not really looking to do that, but seems like my lights are pretty dull:

I would like to drill holes where the three rectangular plastic covers (two red and one blue) are on the right side and the one rectangular cover (red) in the lower left side and add install some LED bulbs there to light up when there is a payout. Also add one LED light for the ball loading window above the flipper on all the time while playing and a pair of LED behind the center attraction to light up when there is a payout.

Been playing around with a LED bulb in the window for the ball loader. I really like that light up all the time.

Also laid a couple of LED bulbs behind the center attraction. Looks ok, probably could be brighter.

Question: Can holes be drilled in the plastic covers in the back machine where the center attraction is located or is there a chance of destroying the cover when I try to drill on them? Of there is a good chance I can drill on them, anyone have any suggestions on the best type of drill bit (step bit is what I'm thinking)? I figure 5/8" hole and use a 5/8" grommet for the light.

I've added lights to a couple of my vintage machines by using an existing hole in the back of the jackpot mechanism. I just put the socket & LED lamp in the hole, no grommet and used a small notch in the jackpot cover to route my wire. The LED's I used had to have the outer edge of their base sanded down ever so slightly in order for them to fit in the jackpot mechanism hole.

No existing holes in the jackpot mechanism on machine:

I was thinking of attaching a pair of lights like this:

The lights really doesn't add much when the jackpot goes off:

I thought about installing the lights on the cover (drill two holes where the two black dots on the cover) and maybe paint the inside of the cover with metallic silver paint to increase the brightness (not really sure I want to paint it):

Here are a couple of pictures of the light in the loader window. I think it looks good:

I added a picture light too for above the machine (it's just mounted to the top of the machine for now-> will incorporate it when I build a cabinet):

    Location of new lights:

No holes yet, just eyeballed the location (a couple of times to get it right):

    New lights2red.jpg

    New lights3red.jpg

Lights installed (Wiil add a little silicone to keep them in place - the bottom left light I had to run the wire to the front, made a notch in the cover to get it to run to the back. That light is right in front to the bell in the back was reason I ran the wire up through the front first. Still need to route all the wires in the back and solder them up):

So I cleaned up the wiring from temporary (testing and setting up) to permanent.

    Wanted to show the difference:

    Temporary:

    Wiring Mess.jpg

    Permanent:

    Wiring Org.jpg

So I have three types of lights. One for the low ball light (which was all wired up when I got the machine. I didn't do anything except change the bulb for a LED one), one that run the jackpot lights (activated by the jackpot contacts) and one that is on all the time (which is the one in the ball loading window).

I also included one extra wire incase I wanted to add some lights to the center attraction later.
