Nishijin Model B JAL Restoration - aka The Battle For The Grease & Glue
My brother-in-law & nephew picked this Nisihjin model B Japan Airlines themed machine up at a garage sale for $20. Previous owner (probably not a pachitalk forum member) used white lithium grease on all the moving parts & those that didn't move, he glued. The machine played fairly well, but needed some TLC, so we worked together to do the best we could to make it presentable, including playfield replacement, removing grease and the orange stains it left behind, sanding scuffs and abrasions off of plastic pieces, then wet sanding & Novus to polish as well as using an x-acto knife to break loose the glued pieces to get them in working order again (front sliding lever for ball drain from upper to lower trays was quite a challenge). I re-soldered all the electrical connections, cleaned up the wiring and put in LED lamps. We're missing a couple of cover pieces on the back of the machine, but I've posted in the forum, another member is looking at what he's got, so we may be in luck.
Today I'm going to surprise my BIL & nephew by delivering this to their house.
