Default Why vintage instead of modern machines

I own two older modern pachinko machines. I’m considering a restored vintage machine that is local. Obviously it is much simpler than the modern and is a different gameplay. So what is the attraction and what should I look for playability wise?

I always look for an interesting center attraction, or some other gimmick not seen every day. Side tross, moving parts, or maybe something interesting with the lights.

And of course make sure all the parts are present.

Something I enjoy on vintage machines is that they have the manual flipper, which is surprising how little force is required; you can launch balls even faster than an auto-launcher, at least for short amount of time.

I guess there are a few modern machines with the flipper, though.

The center feature is more for looks, more tulips= more fun! That’s why everybody wants a Powerflash (9 or 10 tulips) or a Sanyo Diasangen 11 tulips. More action!

The new flipper machines with double opening tulips payoff like crazy too! (Showa Story)

I personally would also look for model A recyclers as it takes less ball shuffling. Especially if your going to cabinet/wall mount it.

For me is the flipper.. I like the simplicity of a vintage machine.. I know if something is wrong i can fix it myself. I look for Vintage Machines the require power of some sort.. I need to find a Morder macine that has a flipper and see how i like it..

I like the vintage machines with the flippers because of the elegance of the design. They are wonderous works of art as far as I am concerned. You don't need electricity to play them, they will play just fine without the lights.

One of the things I remember being in awe over was how the bells ring. When I was a kid, I imagined that is was something like an old bike bell with a spinning clapper, but no, it's just a piece of steel that the balls bounce off of on their way to main tray.

The first machine I restored I restored just by giving it a good cleaning. It didn't disassemble it at all. After 1 year in a pachinko parlor, then 40+ years in someone house and an antique shop, I give it a good cleaning and it still works. I am truly impressed with these machines.

I prefer the vintage ones myself, the basic mechanical functions appeal to me as well as the appearance, they really are a work of art. I enjoy looking at them on display almost as much as playing them.

I started with vintage, and I liked them a lot. After buying a few moderns I doubt I will ever buy a vintage again. (Unless I find a Roulette or a Powerflash at a reasonable price. I already have a Circuit Racer.)

My wife will not even look at the vintage machines, but she does enjoy playing the moderns. My buddies that liked my vintages also like playing my moderns, but wont touch the vintages any more now that I have the moderns.

I appreciate both types. I do believe the vintages the generally prettier when the power is turned off, but they get left in the dust when I turn the moderns on.

The attraction is they are ADDICTIVE! As they say, whatever floats your boat. Both have their pluses and minuses but ultimately it's up to you. I'm back into enjoying these because I'm to cheap to afford a Vette, and not that attractive in my post mid life crisis to warrant one,(wife might hit me with something or taunt me a 3rd time if a Vette appeared outside etc).
