Default Tips for selecting a first machine

I am thinking of ordering a modern (fairly recent) pachinko machine as my very first pachinko but I'm having a tough time deciding. There are many that look interesting from a static photo, but I don't know if there are specific things to look for that make one model better or more fun than another.

Are certain brands or manufacturers better than others? Anything to avoid? Anything with better animatronics or video quality? Or just more detailed than others?

Is there any machine that is the absolute best or objectively better?

I like the idea of getting a similarly themed pachislo as well and was looking at Magical Halloween, Tekken, Dead or Alive Xtreme, Danganronpa, Girls und Panzer and Urusei Yatsura. Other machines that looked interesting are Namcot collection (or 2) and quite a few others.

The choice is overwhelming and I welcome any suggestions on how to narrow it down a bit.

The main Question is what do you really like ?

Batman, Animation , Pretty Girls, Monsters , Extremely Cute kids, Girls, Animals ?

Retro vintage such as the member who got a modern Ball Flipper Tokyo ?
When things don't go right the 1st time , Step back ,Take a break and come back renewed. RGS

Theme is everything. So are bunny girls.

So probably be UY for me. Although I've already had the first and third versions. And the bunny version of the Magical Halloween 2 pachislo.

Check put play videos on YouTube. Also for home use. Try to get on with the lowest odds as possible. Remember they are gambling machines and can go through long dry spells where nothing happens.

Dead or Alive Xtreme is highly recommended; I’ve got one! very fun!

As Clam mentioned; anything bunny girl related is a safe choice, Rio 2 is my favorite in that genre.

Juicy Honey 1-3 is also highly recommended, the 3D screens are amazing!

SOD (Soft on Demand) the soft core porn company theme machine is really fun too if you want something extra spicy!

Or get a skill based hanemono if more interested in skill based gameplay vs mostly luck. Or maybe a digihane; best of both worlds with some aspects of hanemono and a digipachi. Or a standard play A-gon machine with a manual flipper like a vintage is quite fun and different. Like Showa Story.

Thanks Lotsoballs. I found your replies in another thread on Modern Pachinko Machines just now as well. That Ranma looks fantastic. As do the others. Digihane sounds good as well. Is there a list, or an easy way to tell which machine is pure luck and screen vs a semblance of skill?

I do have a (semi)local option of a 3-hour drive each way for a Road Construction Hanemono. I don't want to drive 6 hours, but it is likely my cheapest and fastest option to get a machine in my hands. And from there figure out what else I want after getting a taste.

Theme, theme, theme. If the theme of the machine isn't something that interests you, then you will grow tired of it.

What all the videos don't show you, is what it took to get to the good part.
Machines are repetitive, some more than others, and if you don't like the theme, you will not enjoy playing it.

When picking a machine, no matter how good the reviews may be. It's not about what some like, it about what you like.
What if...the HOKEY POKEY, is what it's all about?

check out clover collectables, they turn on each machine, so you can see what it does, and they play each machine for a few minutes, if you find one that interesting, watch more on you tube, in the states, clover seems to be cheapest (free shipping), plasma (pachinko) infusion (also on ebay), and mordern pachinko, are three websites that sell machines, also you can import from pachishot karen on facebook, they do group shipping, Lotsofballs can tell you more

One of the machines the OP mentions, Urusei Yatsura love attack is really fun; good music and couple bunny girl appearances. Also a real fun cell fits that frame; Girlfriend Beta! A bit racier than Urusei Yatsura…

Clover is awesome, but JT Comatz has by far the best selections; and has been selling machines as low as $129-199 range. Shipping via slow boat to NC is only around $200 each; but I’m only an hour away from the final destination. So you’d have to arrange additional domestic shipping if not in the Charlotte NC region.

I would guess a construction themed hanemono would be a Sankyo Patrush. One version is in a lumina frame.

If you are unsure after just looking at it; go to the Japanese pachinko sites like P-world that show the various types: digipachi (the most common) feather (aka hanemono aka wing type) or if it’s a digihane it lists both digipachi and feathers. (Example below) each machine is way different though so need to do lots of research.

Hanemono type (feather) are pretty easy to tell just by the center feature and nail layout in Masamura gauge.

Searching for it got me to a thread by lotsoballs where he was going to attempt to swap it out of its frame since the jackhammer music was too annoying for his tastes. So apparently it's in a Victory frame, but beyond that I know next to nothing of the machine. Either way it should make for a good first machine to tide me over while I decide which one I really want...

Yeah I sold that one several months ago locally for $100. It’s a good starter hanemono type. Hanemonos are better for shorter playing sessions, vs digipachi where you might be playing through fevers for hours at a time! So good to have a blend of machine types (and odds) depending on if you feel like playing for 5-10 mins on a particular day or 1-2 hours straight.

Nice. Half of what I'll likely end up paying for this one. But I'll have to take what I can get .

another important fact to look out for is the number of balls it comes with 500 minimum, 1000 better.

I like the moderns more than I like the vintages. I started with Vintages. Vintages can be a lot cheaper to start with if you can find one locally. I say go cheap and see what you think.

Half of my friends loved the vintages, but the other half thought they were boring. On the moderns my friends were split down the exact same line which surprised me.

For moderns I agree with the crowd. Find a machine with a theme you love, and you will love the machine.
