    Default Kyoraku Special Electric

I picked up a machine that has a special feature that I haven't seen before.

The playfield has 5 tulips. 4 of them are "blocked", 2 on the left and 2 on the right. The center tulip opens if a ball enters it or you put a ball in the upper center pay pocket.

It has a really unique jackpot feature. If you land a ball in bottom center pocket, you can push the button on the lower left side part of the cabinet. The ball will shoot up into the pay pocket above and all 5 tulips will open. The 2 spinners lite up and a siren sound goes off.

Not really sure if the 5 is part of the name.

I see a key on the left of the frame, what does that do?

So one is for the glass and the other is the machine front?

    That is correct, Sir.

You can open it manually from the back, by pushing down on the lever. I de-pinned both locks and the key opens both locks. I will be putting the machine in a cabinet and being able to access the playfield with the keyed lock, will be "handy".

Fantastic, Wayne! Did you restore this one or buy it like this?

I restored it. It was in fairly good condition, just dirty, (as always) and the chrome had no rust.

I took everything off the playfield, cleaned and polished the nails, touched up the playfield pieces as needed and whitened all the yellowed white pieces with Salon Care 40.

I would normally change the playfield. They are normally faded, have water stains and doesn't go with the theme of the playfield pieces. But, this playfield had no water stains at all and was barely faded. With everything removed from it, I was able to clean and polish it. It looks like a new playfield and the theme of the playfield matches the playfield pieces.

The back was removed and taken apart and cleaned. The shooter tray and door and overflow tray were painted, leaving the inside of the trays original color, (no paint), being balls contact this area and there would be no paint to wear off. (I like a colorful machine).

I don't have many pictures of it as I restored it, but here is a picture of the solenoids, with the back removed. There are three for the tulips and one for the one that shoots the ball up, (it's not shown, it mounts inside the playfield piece).

I got it mounted in a cabinet and added a LED light strip for a playfield light.

    Here's the pictures.

So far all of my (only 3) restorations have been with the original colors of the plastic but every time I see one of your restorations I think I want to do something like what you do with a machine. I will probably do it with my next restoration.

Normally, I make them. I have used posters, wrapping paper or just about anything.

It's pretty easy to make one, I just use images from the internet, print them and cut them out and glue them together.

I take it to a local print shop and they scan it and print me a copy, so I have a smooth playfield to glue to the board. Then I cover it with 5mm Dula-Lar adhesive backed film.

Here is a picture of a Monopoly playfield I made by gluing images together.
