Default Which wood should I use for my modern pachinko's new feet

    Hello everyone,

I will be receiving my first batch of modern pachinkos in the near future. Which wood should I use to make my modern pachinko's new feet? My vintage machines all have feet from 1x4 pine. I hear that the modern machines are heavier, so does this mean I should be using a stronger piece of wood (maple, poplar, oak) for my moderns? Thank you in advance for your input.

Pine should be fine if you already have it. I've been using poplar 1x3 for older moderns and 1x4 for the newer. What works for me is the feet are about 9" lengths to distribute the weight front to back. The feet are about one third out the front side and I place a 18" piece across the rear to which is level with the machine frame for a spent ball box.

I agree with Peteybob. I build my wall cabinets out of pine for my moderns. Pine works.

Another thought is to do something like this to stabilize the machine and have a tray in the front and back for balls.

I did purchase ball trays for that exact reason. Would you know how hard it is to install the wood side panels and side feet on a modern ( I believe they have aluminum side rails)? Due to an accident I am limited in the amount of wood working I can do. I have been able to put feet on my vintage machines with a little help. Thank you all.

I just had a look at the few I have with the aluminum frame. Unlike the bottom having wood inside the frame the sides are hollow. I think you would need to bolt onto the side rails if you went that route. This may also require taking the machine out of the frame to do the work.

The feet in the last pics I posted also attach to a large box that collected waste balls for easy gathering from the front. I'll try getting a picture for you.

Pics of what the prior owner had for a stand and ball return. The feet are screwed down into the box. The box has a slanted bottom with a rubber mat for the waste balls returning to the front. The box raises the machine by six inches. Makes for a nice setup for anyone with wood working skills.
