Default Advice on how to fix courrupted graphics

I recently found an Aruze don chan machine from 2001, its being sold for around 180$, however the problem with it is that the graphics are corrupted. what I mean by that is that the screen works fine its just not displaying the sprites properly. I am looking for help on how to fix this or if its even fixable at all, I have some technical skill so if its isn't an easy fix it still might be do able by me.

Welcome to pachitalk, a video of the problem would be helpful.

Well. could be anything from a dodgy wire to shot chips. rather hard to say. Unless you have experience. I would keep it at barge pole length.

I assumed as such, my plan for repair would be checking wiring, then trying to reset the solder (sticking it an oven for a couple minutes on 380F). or trying to replace the board with another one (I can't seem to find one) or another board from that series of cabinets and hoping for the best. idk if that is a good plan or its just a waste.

I'm all in favour of repair where possible

As for the price. That seems a little high especially as it's not working. I would have expected half that. But then again. I'm in a different country so values do vary.

I'm new to this who slot stuff but not a stranger to electronics. I'm hoping best case that a chip isn't shot. but do you have any guides that focus more on the software side, all the ones i seen focus on hardware. Or should I try to look for a replacement board, or is that too long of a shot to be worth it.

Too bad you are not in Illinois, I have working machines I would let go for much less than that.

There is little to no documentation on the software. This is an aftermarket hobby owning these machines and most any details available are from the discoveries of members here who own them. Also keep in mind that there are thousands of different models and many manufacturers! Parts come from stripped machines.

so what I am getting at is that it isn't a good deal unless i can get them to talk it down alot? I guess if i want to own one i'll look for one that actually works.

I think for $180 you should be able to find a fully working machine with a good amount of tokens. Obviously we want you to find a machine your happy with and join the community. Rather than someone else's lemon leading to disappointment and stress.
