Default Are the 1980s-2010s a lost era or something

It seems like the choices for buying and collecting pachinko machines are usually vintage 70s machines for $200-400, or else $1000-1500 for a brand new one with all the bells and whistles. But I find the stuff from that interim period really fascinating, perhaps because of this perceived rarity (and because my first and only machine is a 2004, I guess). Am I missing something, or does it seem like machines from that period are pretty rare?

Like I found a couple cool videos on youtube.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUkQjlqAaks

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCmH9xRaBXk

Apparently these are typical for 80s machines. LCD screens weren't really a thing so they used the electronics in the machine to operate mechanical features in the center attraction, in conjunction with the then-newfangled knob launcher instead of the flip lever. I love this, these machines look soooo fun to play.

clover collectables has 3 older machines, modern pachinko hasn't been selling that long, plasma pachinko has older, but hard to get, so price is higher. There are 2 over sea company's i know of, dragonfly pachinko and A-pachinko, if you want to ship, they might have older machines, all other company went out business

I guess it's something to do with the electronics as well. For machines with a two year shelf life. Pre 80s machines are mostly mechanical with the only electronics a switch and a bulb. Power flash, arrangeball and special electro aside.

Then came the electric shooter and basic dot matrix displays with the first video screen coming in in the the late eighties early nineties. I know it was Heiwa but can't remember the year. Also around late eighties to mid nineties had lots of hanemono machines. But all had basic payout systems and crude sound and vision. Way below spec of arcade and computer games of the era.

Late nineties onwards saw the rise of more well known themed machines with anime/movie/tv series. Which many of them still see releases today.

The most stand out problem of these now is the issues with Sankyo not liking cold starts and effects the whole machines graphics, sound and animatronics. Even the latest Star Wars was failing with motor faults whilst still in parlours.

Also.the cost to.get one of this era machine in Japan has gone nuts. I see Sea Story machines from this time selling for twice the price of a newer model. Possibly due to changes in the gaming laws between the two. So an importer wouldn't be interested in buying a machine to sell at a profit when the start price is double for something that's a decade old. Just as a car salesman.

So your left in a situation where the only machines of that period are the ones already in private ownership and were most likely brought because the owner liked the theme. Or have failed with electronic issues that can't be fixed and scrapped or stripped for parts.

mechanical action over screens is why i like the Tokio series of moderns.
i, too, really like the LED-8bit effects of the 80s-90s but cannot seem to find, for all the reasons mentioned above.

They don’t seem that rare here in NC; just have to keep an eye out for them. I’ve bought more than a dozen 1990’s-2000’s hanemono, kenrimono, and arepachi over the past few years. Other collectors downsizing collections is the best source. They are far less common however than 70’s vintage pachinkos that everybody and their brother has one for sale it seems and most are in poor/neglected shape.

They are usually cheap too; $100 or less. Except for the arepachi, the collector who sold me my Penguin demanded $200 which I obliged since it’s fairly rare.

Ah, the Golden Era, when pachinko machines ran wild all over the place. You're lucky to find some games 5 or so years out of their release dates. They're changed out every couple years in Japan, the majority scrapped and recycled. Some were shipped here (by the thousands during 'The Era') but it doesn't seem to be that way now. Like Lotsoballs said, a collector downsizing will have the best selection, only problem is shipping.

I know you alone still have at least 50+ of them! I still play a bunch of the machines I got from you place a few years ago! Remember Cutie Honey and flood damaged and covered in river crud Star Wars?

I'd love to have one of those Star Wars machines someday. As I understand it, they're from the same series as my Sammy SOS Rescue Dog machine.

Star Wars machines are all built by Sankyo; they bought the rights presumably. None would fit a Sammy frame.

The first Star Wars is in the Lumina frame; which has tons of cell swapping options. Which is why it is/was so popular.
