    Default Fluorescent lights not working

    Hello,
I am completely new to this hobby, but not to working on coin op machines. I recently was given 2 pachislo machines as projects. One is a Burning Heat Waver and the other is an Azteca Legend. Each have separate issues.

On the Azteca, the tokens get stuck and will fall directly through to the tray. They do sometimes register and go into the hopper. I have tried to clean the coin mech, but it hasn’t helped. Do I need to purchase a new one or is there some trick to getting these coin mechs to work consistently. Again, I am very familiar with pinball and arcade mechs, but these seem to operate differently. Thank you for any help in advance.

Secondly, on the Burning Heat Waver, both fluorescent bulbs are not working. The bulbs are fine. I tried them in the Azteca and they both work. I removed the “starter” boards. I guess that’s what they are called. Both of the boards have blown fuses that are soldered to leads on the board. Do I just clip the leads and solder new fuses in or would there be a deeper problem to trouble shoot.

Lastly, neither machine came with keys. The Azteca will unlock with anything you stick in the key hole and the burning heat waver has a hole drilled in the back that you can access the lock mechanism. The problem with that machine is that there is a lock on the front, but it looks like it uses a round key that I have never seen before. What would be the easiest way to rekey or replace on the burning heat waver.

Again, thank you for any help with these issues. I hope I have placed these questions in the correct forum. This is my first post on pachitalk so if I did something wrong I will apologize ahead of time.

Quick follow up. The coin mech for Azteca works well now. Still trying to get an answer on the light boards for the fluorescent lights in Burning Heat Waver. I looks like a 2amp slow blow fuse. The question is, do I just cut the leads and solder a new fuse in place or do I need to do something else. Anyone else have an issue like this before?

Not my field. But some just replace the tubes with led strip lights. Its cooler and last longer. If the fuse has blown it might mean there is a duff component on the board. If you have an amp meter you might be able to test the load over the fuse. Of course do it in a way that is safe q

Has anyone ever repaired a light board on one of these things?

I think I’m going to go this route unless anyone else has a solution. It’s crazy how many different companies made these machines and how scarce parts are for them. They really are fun. I’m surprised there isn’t a company that is making parts and selling them online. Again, I come from the pinball world, so my idea what’s available is different than the Pachislo world. What a great hobby. My family loves these things. I’m still going to take these boards to a friend that’s an electrical engineer to see if he can do anything with them. Thanks again for the replies. What a great community you guys have here.

I hope your friend can help. The reason there are no parts available by the manufacturer is easy to understand once you understand a bit about the gaming market in Japan. In Japan, the owners are initially charged handsomely for new machines and then basically have to retire every machine or at least it's cell after two years by Japanese law. This law creates a thriving business environment for manufacturers. The aftermarket parts business that manufacturers could potentially cater to is not worth the trouble because it would require stocking a million different parts for a small group of non professionals. There is just a small group of collectors like yourself searching for used machines at a decent price. Parts come from old machines that most likely have a significant problem or simply have been stripped for such. If, like in the USA, casino owners were under no restrictions for the operating life of a slot machine on the casino floor, you would most likely see a professionally operated, thriving parts market.

Those Fuses on your starter boards blew cause of a component on them is bad . The blue capacitors have a best use date and can go out of tolerance .
