    Unhappy Hopper Issue

Hi I have a Frozen Nights Pachislo and apparently I have a hopper issue I can't quite figure out. Whether in credit mode or payout mode when I win the music comes on and H.E. error shows. I've reset the machine. I've emptied the hopper, checked for coins lodged, cleaned it, lubed the dial and the arm, cleaned the sensor, checked connections and tested the fuses. I noticed when I manually turn the dial and it spits coins out the led light on the mother board doesn't come on. Could it be a bad sensor? When I flip the empty switch up on the hopper then reset and turn the power back on the hopper makes a quick mechanical noise then the music starts up. So I flip that switch down and reset again then that goes away. I don't know if maybe the motor is bad now. It seems like the hopper either isn't getting power or the signal it needs to work. Does anybody have any idea what's going on? The hopper seemed to work fine a few weeks ago.

I would agree that it sounds like a bad sensor on the hopper not reading the pay out. Take a pic.if the sensor on the hopper, I have a few optical sensors for my Yamasa coin mechanism I had ordered.

The sensor is now working. I see the led light come on in the motherboard when I manually turn the dial on the hopper. The motor looks good. No signs of burn out. Resetting, cleaning the hopper and coins didn't fix it. Fuses are good. H.E. error still appears after a win. How does the dump switch work? Flip it up and it dumps all the coins?

If on payout. The machine spits out an amount of tokens then goes into error, it would be a sensor fault if no payout at all. Then the motor is not turning. So either the motor, the psu that sends power to the motor or the main processor not sending signal to PSU.

I once removed the hopper and wired the motor to a car battery to test.
Warning it can really spit the tokens out with some force.

I will look into the motor. If it's not getting a signal from the PSU then what? A capacitor? A chip?

When I pull the hopper out and test the blue 16 pin connector where the hopper plugs in at I do get readings on the terminals.

You can check the motor with a 9 volt battery

I did the motor test with the battery and it worked. So that helps narrow things down. Next I'll see if I can trace the wiring down to the psu. Maybe it's not getting the contact it needs to send the signal.

Wow. I just want to say thanks a lot for everybody's input. Using a battery to test the motor and tracing back to the pcu. Along the way I noticed that big connector with the 20 wires or so wasn't seated all the way down on one side. Everything works like it should now. This is my first pachislo and I got it shipped to me last November by someone who didn't package it right. It ended up having a lot of problems from the handlers. Lights, stop buttons, reels not working, the whole enclosure threatening to collapse from the integrity being compromised, the dirt, the dust, the grime, etc..... About 2 months worth of learning and restoring. Works great now.
